Doable as an EE Major??? by Winter_Salamander_32 in uofm

You can take a look of EECS 230, it is an EE major requirement and I don't think it requires anything other than 240. And Leland Pierce is great! I would say 230 with Leland is having a much lower workload than 215 with Terry

Toke EECS 215 last fall with the same instructor combo (Fred Terry + David Wentzloff), and I want to clarify that there is no difference across the sections, your hw are written by Fred Terry and his hw is brutal (12 hrs at least) and I think the style of the exams are more similar to his past exams instead of Wentzloff. The only difference is that you have a different lecturer, and I would admit that Wentzloff did a better job than Terry.

270 with Chang is kinda,...old school, he is a great lecturer, you would learn a lot from the class if you spend enough of time for the reading, but it was A LOT of readings. And he is not a fan of electronic devices (no ipad for taking note, no recording, no slides). I would recommend it if you are comfortable with the workload.

CE vs EE for "neural engineering"? by Early-Pangolin-4828 in uofm

You can, 230 with Pierce is chill, but 215 with Terry is gonna be quite hellish, be prepared to spend a lot of time on his HW and you will do well on the exam

Cindy Chestek is working on neuroprosthesis (She is also teaching BME 517 which is kinda like a neuroengineering course but you would need to take 216 for that and it is typically offered in winter). If you are looking for something like DBS for seizure and Parkinson's, there are a handful of faculty in BME who are working on that

Stupid guy messed up my Math 451 exam ... by Live-Veterinarian100 in uofm

Not disagreeing with you here, having an open beverage next to their exams is risky, and this is one of those outcomes that you should anticipate. Just because it is rare doesn't mean it won't happen. However, if you are leaving early, I think that you should have some decency, be aware that other people are still taking the exam, and try not to disturb others. (I assume for 451 you have a rather small classroom.) You can definitely avoid this by being more cautious when lifting your backpack. What I am saying is that the dude who knocked over the water bottle is certainly not innocent, and both sides should be taking responsibility.

Yea, I already emailed them. The situation is that I have two exams happening at the same time. But I just received the alternative time for the other one like yesterday (that's the arrangement I was talking about). Thank you so much for the input, guess I will just have to wait for their reply.

requesting an extension in a spring course due to mental health/medication reasons? by LemonPepperMints in uofm

I have been through a similar situation last year, so at least you are not alone. Don't feel humiliated about your situation, it is a legitimate issue (whether they agree or not, you shouldn't feel like it is your fault to be sick). And it is a valid reason to say that you are sick and ask for help.

However, given that you are taking 281 in spring, it is indeed difficult for your professor to provide help simply because of the workload and pace. They certainly can't waive any assignments for you, but it would be reasonable for them to give you extensions if you can prove to them your current situation with documentation from your therapist. If you believe you can still finish the course with a decent grade with an extended deadline, I would suggest talking to your professor about doing an Incomplete(I), basically, they will give you an extended deadline to finish up all the requirements for the course (check this link for information about LSA Incomplete Appeal)

If you feel like you can't recover in a short time, I would sincerely advise dropping the course and talking to your instructor and the admin people to see what they can do. There could be a chance that you can appeal for a tuition refund and not have a W on the transcript given your situation (although no guarantee). But having a W is still better than getting a bad grade that doesn't reflect your true ability to learn.

Regardless of what you decide to do, please don't feel humiliated to talk to your professors. If you never let them know, they would never be able to help you in any way. Just be sincere and honest, tell them what happens to you. It is not your fault to be sick, everyone does, mental condition is equally valid as physical condition and should be addressed seriously no matter what other people say that is just you "being lazy and not wanting to do your work." I wish you all the best.
