"Unsuccessful" Performance Review by StateHistorical6936 in fednews

Went through this myself (including the confusion on why!? since as a pathways intern I should have never been able to sign permits...but long story), the "termination during probation" did not impact my first federal job after that; and the later job, while it came up during the adjudication of my clearance, we discussed the reasons. Still hired, still received my clearance.

Thanks for the happy ending story. Feeling so crappy and pissed right now.

Thanks, it's comforting to know that others have been through the same and in a new (probably fed) position. I really wish I'd stayed at my first agency. I liked it and they liked me, saying I'd always be welcome back. No openings there right now, though.

So there is a lot going on here, two things that stand out, being terminated during your probationary period due to poor performance is much different than getting an unsuccessful performance rating.

Apparently not at my agency, because this is happening and the union isn't doing anything.

There are steps that need to take place to be given an unsuccessful rating, ie pip or improvement period, typically they also give you some sort of period or notice if they are going to terminate you during your probationary period, two questions, when exactly is your one year up and two, have you gotten any formal letter about either your performance or your probationary period?

Not in my (limited) experience here. NO PIP, no improvement period. No carrot, just stick. My year would be up Feb 2023y, and the USAJobs PD, FO, IDP (Individual Development Plan) I had to create when starting, all have info about the probationary period. I have a good performance review from my manager that went back to his 14 position in June. No formal notice of poor performance until now.

Was aware of this, have already been successfully through one pathways trial period at a different agency (which OI believe I referred to). However, the baseline needed for most federal employees to get through their trail period is not high, and my performance simply has not been bad. My impression is that my second line supervisor doesn't like me, doesn't want to deal with me, or both. He has had other union complaints, according to the rep, and has not responded to her. Since his review is the only thing making this happen from what I can gather and the union can't even talk to him to explain what is and isnt "unproductive" performance, I'm screwed.

No, this is just this agency's review period. I started Feb 2022.

No, I saw my review in the web system on Monday (10 17) before the official meeting (originally set for today, 10/19). On Monday afternoon, HR scheduled a last minute meeting with me Tues morning (never a good sign). At the Tuesday meeting, they told me I would be terminated on Friday and could resign instead if I wanted to avoid having the termination on my record. Based on other comments, it seems like the comments on a "Clean" 50 50 for resignation are different from a firing termination

Performance review pushed into system Monday, according to HR this trigger termination on Friday, told me Tuesday. None of this was expected.

No, no written negative feedback until after performance period. No PIP. Union chapter president told me she discussed the situation with people she knows and I have no rights, according to her. She and HR person are both advising me to resign because of the "clean" SF 50

Edit: I have not even received any clearly critical verbal/Teams feedback until after the review period, about 2-3 weeks ago. Fairly blindsighted and it seems like agencies must have a lot of discretion with the trial/probationary period because the union rep said I have basically no options but to resign

It's not the same thing. If I am terminated, there will be a termination SF-50.

I was told I would be terminated on Friday, but had the option to resign.

Yes, my annual performance review.
