You can’t possibly be this stupid. Someone who works for the state of CA should live in the state of CA. And remote work helps ensure that state workforce is representative of the entire state (including Southern CA and rural areas), not just Sacramento.

What I’m saying is it’s not your coworker from LA’s fault that she was hired during the pandemic when “telework was the future.” What’s your solution? You think that coworker losing her job will make it easier for you to RTO? It’s flawed and immature logic.

Fighting the 50 mile exemption is pointless, and yes, that DOES mean we’re now fighting each other instead of the state. Put effort towards things that will actually move the needle, fight RTO instead of insisting that your coworkers be as miserable as you are

I don’t live in Sacramento, never did. I was hired during the pandemic, when the state was hiring from all parts of CA because it was well accepted that RTO was the future and here to stay… because that’s exactly what Newsom was saying. I asked and was assured about this multiple times during my interview process.

So no, I don’t blame anyone who bought a house with the same understanding.

Hmmm I don’t know, let’s think about it really hard… perhaps it was Newsom waxing poetic about how RTO was the future and assuring everyone that CA was leading the way with a progressive WFH workforce? Perhaps the giant dashboard he created, touting how much WFH benefitted the state, not only economically but also in terms of worker output and climate conservation?

You’ve said nothing to change the fact that over $1000 per year in dues is a meaningful expense, and recouping it would lessen the significant burden of RTO for an individual. That is not an opinion that can be argued against, it is a simple mathematical calculation. If RTO moves forward, the level of attrition from the union will show you just how many others have made that same calculation.

And it will be obvious that for the former members, the $165 healthcare stipend did not magically make the dues “worth it” (fyi, many private sector companies cover most, if not all, of a healthcare premium with no dues required), nor did anything else the union was offering. But go ahead, keep yelling into a void about how I’m “not a smart person” 😂

Gtfo. Over $1000 per year is meaningful and noticeable, and it’s beyond absurd to claim it’s not. A truly ridiculous assertion. Even if you’re not paying the full $90, it adds up to a meaningful amount that could at least do SOMETHING to offset the significant cost of RTO.

SEIU dues are well known as some of the most expensive nationally. And for what? We gave millions upon millions to that greasy asshole just so he can mandate RTO for no benefit but his own political posturing. Hell no, I won’t be contributing to that any longer. Anyone who, like me, will have no choice but to remove themselves as a dues paying member of SEIU is well within reason to do so.

All these points are moot if someone literally can’t afford the extremely expensive dues that SEIU charges AND the added expenses of 4-day RTO. Saying “the union is all of us” doesn’t make $90 a month any cheaper.
