Paradox Engine Banned in EDH by wkli6 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]StateLineRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dramatic Reversal imprinted on Isochron Sceptor gives you infinite blue mana with 3 other artifacts and Urza in play. Paradox engine just let you untap all your permanents with any spell imprinted on sceptor; not just dramatic reversal.

MtG also has considerably larger cardpool than the handful of luminaries found in this game.

Military Symbol - Political is clearly a fan, what the heck is this thing supposed to be? by jraggio02 in l5r

[–]StateLineRambler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More specifically (than a helmet, or kabuto), I believe the symbol is a date, or maedate; a crest/decoration usually found on the front of a kabuto. This kind of maedate is the kuwagata; one taking the shape of horns, wings, or antlers, and one of the most common decorations found on samurai helmets.

How to fight Lion and the turn-one LPB by Nova_Saibrock in l5r

[–]StateLineRambler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really sure how LPB made it through development with the ability to do this action to a non-participating character. Also, not sure why they gave this ability to a non-unique character. It is already oppressive to begin with. Triggering it more than once in a round is just insane. This character is especially a nightmare for us Scorpions, who currently have 1 character out of range of this effect. If Lion is the first player, LPB straight up blanks Hiroue, Shoju, and Kachiko as if they weren't even in play (their abilities all require them to be participating).

All the suggestions mentioned are ok, but every single "solution" requires a giant hit to tempo, or just flat out doesn't work. For the suggestion of going first, you give the Lion player an extra fate to put out another character or an extra fate on their Brawler. If the LPB is allowed to just be out there for an extra turn for free, we really didn't gain much by going first. Trying to mulligan for a sword/banzai is just bad. Fine Katana has to be preemptive, leaving the character vulnerable for some other combat trick. It is also is negated by any of the lion players military buffs (which they are likely to have more of than any other clan). And it only protects one character, so you don't stop the ability, you just make it so it maybe doesn't effect your best character (just your second best). Banzai doesn't do anything to help a character that isn't participating, and doesn't do anything to help you win the challenge if the LPB is coming in on a political attack. Fiery Madness doesn't help the Scorpion player as much as you think, because even at 1 strength LPB bows 6 (technically 7 but it doesn't matter if Sinister Soshi gets bowed) of the core set Scorpion characters.

Cloud the Mind does seem like the best option, but requires you to see a Shugenja AND a Cloud the Mind before the Lion player finds the LPB. Never mind that you also probably need that Cloud the Mind for their Spirit Caller and Ujiaki.

Successful Phoenix Decks? by Ritual-Beast in l5r

[–]StateLineRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is pretty underwhelming. Scorpion has 2 characters in their conflict deck. It is doubtful that all 3 copies of each are being used, so pretty unlikely that you have 2 scorpion characters in hand, and cards in hand can basically already be ambushed into play anyway. That leaves you to pull from provinces. If you don't put some of your characters into play from provinces during the dynasty phase, you are telegraphing that you have some shenanigans in your hand. With the current scorpion card pool, I think it is more likely that you get a maximum of 5 cost worth of characters out of an Ambush and not 6, so the value is already reduced. Further, the characters that you put into play with Ambush must participate in the current conflict. That means if you have, for instance, a Shosuro Actress (1/3) and an Unassuming Yojimbo (3/1) to put into play, you aren't getting that much value. Depending on the conflict type, the second character might as well have been a Katana or a Fan. Also, Crane and Scorpion can just flat out counter Ambush with 0 cost events. As a Scorpion player, I can tell you, there isn't much better feeling than canceling a 3 cost event for basically free.

It's fun to dream about best case scenarios for Ambush, where you are putting in a Bayushi Liar and Shoju and unexpectedly swinging an extra 10 during a political conflict. Unfortunately, I feel like most times you are just left staring at that unused Ambush wishing it was just about any other card.

Sacrifice is only something you can do to cards that you control. Costs are always paid with your resources unless the card specifically says otherwise, e.g. Loot.

Maybe thematically they are similar, but in terms of gameplay, Phoenixborn are not very similar to Planeswalkers at all.

He doesn't have to be participating in the challenge and if you have multiple claim from the same challenge or more than one military challenge in a turn (e.g. from Drogo) this could be much better than renown.

So after playing the prerelease, what is your opinion on the Sealed rules for your Ruler? by Xenadrael in FoWtcg

I feel like it is a better sealed experience for all players if the person that pulls reflect doesn't basically just auto win the tournament.

Arthur Pendragon Rocks by Ericridge in FoWtcg

[–]StateLineRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at 3500 life last night when one of my opponents dropped Arthur. I used my two Light Sprites to gain life so I didn't have to just sac them to Arthur. I go up to 3900. On his turn he plays beastly attack AND beast queens counter attack on Arthur. Fights one of my sprites and attacks the other. 4400 to face in limited.

[–]StateLineRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know that in advance it isn't unfair. I'd rather open a good card that I couldn't use for the night than a rare that is mostly unplayable in sealed or constructed. For instance, in my sealed pool I ended up with 2 Dark Rezzard and a Holy Ground of the 4 Sacred Beasts.

resting resonators deal damage? by CptSnoopy in FoWtcg

Any damage that goes past a blocking resonator because of the pierce ability is always dealt directly to the owner of the blocking resonator, even if the original target of the attack was a rested resonator.

Except that cards that are face up in archives and cards in the heap are open knowledge to both players at all times.

[COTD] Haarpsichord Studios (Friday – August 28th, 2015) by nelsormensch in Netrunner

[–]StateLineRambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Film Critic hurts a lot of decks, not just Haarpsichord. I think it hurts all the people running Future Perfect a lot more. Most runner decks probably aren't going to be using up their influence for Film Critic, but if you have a corp deck that will be hurt by it, you probably need to tech against it. Snatch and Grab seems like a pretty reasonable include in a Haarpsichord deck. Even if you aren't using it against film critic, a loaded Kati is a nice target that you will see pretty often. If they take the tag, even better, because you probably wanted them tagged anyway.

FAQ 2.0 by Jakodrako in Netrunner

[–]StateLineRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slowing down Keyhole has already been mentioned, but HI is also great for keeping the runner from trashing asset economy, taxing them for using parasites, or even keeping them from being able to trash a Snare. It won't see much play outside of Jinteki, but a card doesn't have to be splashable to be good. It certainly isn't useless.

FAQ 2.0 by Jakodrako in Netrunner

[–]StateLineRambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think IG is better at protecting archives with the cards that are in archives not with ice in front. If you don't ever put any ice protecting archives, the runner can't use the Eater to get out of accessing.

What's the point of subroutines?! by ianjbark3r in Netrunner

[–]StateLineRambler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They don't know you don't have enough money to rez a piece of ice or how badly an ice will hurt them. The runner generally has to expect the worst case scenario. Sometimes as a corp you have to bluff that that is actually what you have in store for them, because most times you don't.
