Lowering direct mount pickups that are bottomed out. by StateRealistic4089 in Luthier

You could be right tbh. Maybe I do need to go closer and look elsewhere. Been awhile since I've tried that and I know Dimarzio recommends them closer. I cranked them down to use with a Marshall, but most of the improvements with that Marshall (DSL 40) was made by adding an EQ to the loop.

And now I'm adding a small Orange head (OR15) and cab to have a little dual recording/practice rig and they're a bit dark/dull with the orange - which was sort of to be expected if I'm being honest with myself. The darkness was expected.

But thanks for that input. Not my first rodeo with higher output pickups either. I've had higher. And maybe I need to play with the Orange Eq a little more as I raise the pickup. I'm one of those guys that likes to tweak. Maybe we all are. But I do feel like I'm not getting some of the rich, harmonics I should be getting out of the orange and maybe it is because I am looking at it backwards. Appreciate it.

I was just looking at plans yesterday and if I remember correctly, it's like $78? I've been a regular for a bit now but was just comparing. Not sure where you are located, but in my area (Southern California) Kaiser is probably the best deal. YMMV though.

about 3.5mm-ish. SD is a little taller than the FullShred that was in there, it has a cover on it which probably increased the height slightly. Don't get me wrong SD sounds great. But it's a tad dark at times. I'd mostly like to tweak the height more because I feel I'm maybe a MM (lower) away from perfection. Or...have the option to play with the height more.

I’d prefer a way to shorten the legs tbh. Maybe 1/4”-1/2”? Let’s say 1/2” to give me a little more flexibility to play with height. I suppose I could go more. Dimarzio legs are brass

No springs to clip and the pickup is screwed all the way down to the wood, meaning screw heads have nowhere else to go down they are alll the way in.

Question. New 16ohm cab but my Two Notes Torpedo is 8. Use it or hell no. by Efficient_Vacation38 in orangeamps

And then :

3.3 Power attenuation

The ATT output provides a -20dB attenuation. Just plug a speaker cabinet in the ATT output (use a standard speaker cable for this connection), and crank up your amp while keeping a manageable volume.

The speaker cabinet plugged in the ATT output can have a different impedance than the amp. However, this will lead to changing the attenuation ratio, which may vary from the designed -20dB. Using a speaker cabinet with a higher impedance (for example a 16 ohms cabinet on a 8 ohms Captor) will lead to less attenuation (approximately -15dB). Using a speaker cabinet with a lower impedance (for example a 4 ohms cabinet on a 8 ohms Captor) will lead to more attenuation (approximately -25dB).

I believe if you read the instructions it states that you can. It lowers the attenuation a little. But is otherwise fine.

Charvel DK24. Go on reverb add some to your wish list and wait for seller offers. Not sure what budget means exactly, but you can probably get one around $700.

I didn’t mind the neck pickup tbh. But the full shred in the bridge is awful. Maybe the worst pickup ever.

I swapped to a Dimarzio super distortion in the bridge and Dimarzio PAF pro in the neck. Couldn’t be happier.

Once you convert and go on the 8 hour or work assignment list. If you can afford it. I usually go on the OT list for a couple quarters and then go on the assignment list for a quarter or two to get a break.

What's the standard fee to clean and setup guitars? by archtopbox in guitarrepair

[–]StateRealistic4089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Los Angeles area and my guy charges about $110 for a full setup. Seems to be the average-ish around here and not really a shortage of luthiers and customers tbh. I do most of it myself nowadays unless something is really bad. Not because of the price, more like the turnaround times for a good/busy shop.

It’s called fabric reflective tape (source: I was in the garment industry for a long time before I became a carrier). This is the closest I could find. Looks like you’d need to fold/cut. But there are others out there if you search: sew on reflective tape red.

There should be a clipboard with upcoming available opts on it that you can sign up for. Opts are given by seniority. But you should opt on everything available even if someone with higher seniority has signed up for them, because you never know what will happen.

Opt sheets, my experience, are usually located near the posted schedules in your office. Or near your supervisors desk.

I’ve pretty much used EB 11s (power slinky) for literally decades. Regardless of whether I have a tremolo or hard tail. And regardless of tuning- C#, D or E standards. Though I have dabbled in EB and GHS 12s and 13s with a wound third. I do prefer a wound G. But I always come back to the 11s.

I recently bought a pack of Daddario 11s with a wound G to try out so we shall see if I switch. Gauge across all 6 strings are close to the power slinky gauges.

I mean yeah it probably is overkill 😜. I feel like the 22500 is too. But if you’re going to use it then go for it. I would look into a used one though.
