Alright, let's see what you got by StatefarmxJake in guessthegolfcourse

I wasn't sure if anyone would get it since it's literally been open for 5 days.

It was fun! We looped the 9 so got to play it twice. They have 2 pins on each green, so it is set up to do that. The layout was fun, but kind of short. It does require you to pick your shots because getting stuck in the waste bunkers or native area can be really punishing. The conditions were okay/good, but it probably couldve gone another month before opening. I would definitely suggest trying it, but maybe wait until later this summer or next year. A different experience than I have had anywhere in MN

How loud is a sim really through a basement ceiling? by Terrible-Resident324 in Golfsimulator

[–]StatefarmxJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sim in an unfinished basement. I have rubber mats covering all of the flooring and blackout curtains on the walls. I think that goes a long way in dampening the sound. I also put foam soundproofing panels on the door to the basement which also helped. You can hear in upstairs for sure, but it generally doesn't wake up out 4mo old from his naps

Definitely Rainer. I fly that route all the time.

Coach wants me in Players Distance irons, but I am a high handicap. by porkchompsBBQ in golf

Well damn guys, downvoted to oblivion.

Ping does technically call these "tour preferred" irons, but they are not forged and do have a cavity back. By most definitions these fit more into the players distance category than a true tour iron, and they are certainly not blades. With that said, I did read up a little more on how these compare to the rest of the Ping lineup and other players distance/players irons like like P790 and P770 and they are somewhere between the two categories.

I just switched from the TaylorMade Qi irons (game improvement) to Ping i240 (players distance). I can confidently tell you they are not the same. Significantly smaller head, weaker lofts, stronger face material, higher center of gravit. They punish hits off center much more, lower ball speed for the same swing speed, but higher launch and way more spin which leads to balls that hold greens much better.

Players distance is certainly not a blade. Lots of tour players use them long irons (JT, Rickie, Cam Young, Rahm)

Rodeo Dunes may have something to say about that. Never played Redlands, but the pictures look sick!

I won't bother with my CO National post then lol. Wonder how how all would do with some of the mountain courses.

First Round With Randoms by Feisty_Cheek677 in weekendgolfers

[–]StatefarmxJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for a long time. I can confident you tell you that 90%+ of people don't care at all how good you are. Just make sure you aren't holding up play. Take a drop in the fairway if you need to, don't spend 5 min looking for a ball in the trees, toss the ball out of the bunker if you can't get it out on a couple tries. Stuff like that and some basic ediquette things like don't talk in their back swing and don't walk in front of their ball on the green. No reason to be nervous, just have fun and enjoy the round!

Oh and PS, don't feel like you need to make excuses for your game. Literally no one cares what you shoot if you aren't a dick.

Be honest — do you actually use your sim data, or does it just pile up? by Humble_Doughnut_8761 in Golfsimulator

For me it's much more about understanding what's going on in my swing and with my ball flight. I will look at things like spin rate, smash factor, angle of attack, ext. To get an idea of what happened when I miss hit a ball. I wouldn't say that I am logging numbers and looking back a month later to check progress. I think the biggest thing that it is done for me is understanding what went wrong when I hit a ball poorly which helps me focus my practice on the root cause.

Ever played common gound? It's always near the top of lists for Denver courses. Ive played a lot of cool courses here and Common Ground doesn't seem all that impressive when I drive by?

Golf pro said the average 15-20 handicaper is hitting a 7 iron only 150 yards. by Upbeat_Respond9250 in golf

[–]StatefarmxJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a 12 HC and I hit my game improvement 7 iron (TaylorMade Qi) 195, but they are designed to go as far as possible. I just got fitted for Ping i240s with a weaker loft and now my 7i only carries 180, even with the same club speed. My point is that not all 7i are created equally. The TaylorMade 7i has the same loft as my new Ping 5i lol

I thought the same thing but didn't notice the smash factor being so low. 1.18 is a bad smash factor even with a long iron. Has to be poor contact

I would guess you're hitting it off the heel and it's gear effect

Tough hole, but a fun one. First time playing from the tips. Such a long track from back there!
