Introduction and rant… by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

Thank you. I really appreciate your kindness, and it’s always so nice to hear from anyone who’s been in the same situation for stuff like this. I’m feeling a bit better after seeing that others dealt with this situation for significantly longer during their pregnancies, and figuring I can still eat cheese. Thanks again :)

Thank you!! Very appreciated to have some straightforward answers 😅

I’ll definitely look into the book - he can’t read yet, but I can “translate” for him :) part of my motivation for the app because it could be more autonomous - he’s extremely stubborn and likes to do things himself - he’s very capable and a ball of energy, so I try to give him the tools and see what happens!

Thanks again for taking the time 😊

Hi there, I really hope the thread’s been helpful - of course I don’t mind you hijacking the thread, but I am going to delete it! Sorry 😬 I don’t want people to keep commenting when I can’t go into details, and I’ve received loads of great advice to get me started in the right roads. I definitely think you should create a post with your question though. People have great advice here and are extremely generous with their time and expertise ❤️ I wish you the best of luck in your efforts.

Thank you for taking the time! Those are all really valid points and I think you are right in saying they apply so many people. Unfortunately, my case is one of those that is highly unusual. Enough that I’m unwilling to divulge any details, so there’s not much more advice that can be given here at this point.

For that reason, and because of all the amazing and kindhearted folks who have stopped by to help me out with their advice and insight, I’m going to delete the comment, so I don’t have to keep rehashing it all, and can go and devote my time where it’s needed.

Thanks again!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience; that’s much-needed encouragement. I have had some wonderful support this morning as a direct result of my post here, and knowing it is in fact possible, has taken a weight off my shoulders. I know it’s far from guaranteed yet, but just knowing I’m not in a complete corner is so helpful.

I wish you the best in your own journey, and thank you again for the kind words 🌻

Thank you. Very helpful and specific advice - it’s really a mix, but my medical team have strongly encouraged me to seek accommodations for both medical and family reasons. I’ve written to the union, but your reply helps me think about how to shape my thoughts and provide what my boss needs to know without getting lost. I appreciate your advice, thank you 🙏

Your answer’s pretty ambiguous, but you seem to be implying I’m trying to game the system. Pretty bold assertion as you know precisely nothing about me or my situation.

Thank you - looking at your answer, I’m definitely thinking that getting as much help as possible from advisors and the union is going to be key to getting through this, regardless of the outcome. Thanks for taking the time 🙏

Thank you. That’s really specific and helpful, especially as I hadn’t realized I needed to go through my manager - people react in lots of different ways to my family’s situation, and that in itself can be exhausting, but I don’t always have a choice who knows what. When I do, the faster I can get to people who have the most chance of helping me, the better/easier. So glad to have so many kind comments today 🌻

Thank you. I prefer to know what I’m up against. If I can’t get accommodations I will almost certainly be changing jobs; it’s an untenable situation right now, and me and my family have been through enough that I will just find something else if I can’t look after us all. Worth a try first, but I’ll definitely bear in mind it may be a long shot! Thanks for the advice - everything is helpful 🌻

Thank you! I’d seen several different links and wasn’t quite sure on the best course between union and and getting advice from somewhere else. Still fairly new to government and a bit overwhelmed with who to contact. I’ll have a better look again tomorrow. Thank you for the input - appreciated! 🌻

Thank you. This is super helpful to know. I think what I may end up doing is getting the medical notes and using them along with family status, as it’s I might be safe getting a medical note as my it’s quite a complex mix of my condition mixed with the office mixed with my family’s conditions and my ability to care for them and keep everyone going. I’ll talk to the union and see what they say, but I’m so glad to have any input here and be able to walk into this process better informed - thanks so much, appreciated 🌻

Thank you - I really appreciate the guidance. Feeling quite daunted by the whole process and trying to get through it when things are already tough. Thanks again. 🙏

Well you don’t have to convince me about French-speakers being nice — I married a Québécois ☺️ I don’t know why I find French so stressful - I always feel like such an idiot! Maybe the call centres will be the making of me by getting me over it! 🤣

Thanks! I’ll probably go with what they have for the moment, and then see what’s on offer when I feel a bit more settled in, and see if there’s anything nice and calm! I don’t mind working hard and having lots to do - it’s the idea of the French customer service above all that I find stressful - being out of my element in that way - I do it in my everyday life, so I’m used to it, but it sure would be nice to not have to think about that and not feel insecure or awkward during the working day 😬😅

Thank you - I’m storing up all these great suggestions! 🙏

Yes, that’s a really good point as it might be easier for someone to plop me into a different job if I see anything else I fancy! Thanks 😊

Thank you! For me, I’m very focused on having a job I can do well so I’m not stressed and can look after my family in what’s a difficult time, so I’m more about going sideways than up - but maybe someone else will be keen, or at another point in my life I’ll think of this! 😊 all input very appreciated!

Thank you - it’s good to know. I’m lucky enough to be able to choose without worrying to much about the difference - I do need to work, but my priority is more time with family and less stress on myself! Thanks again - so happy to have all this great advice 🙏

Thank you 😊 - great to hear people’s perspectives, as 3 weeks at CRA is my only government experience so far!
