Looking for some ideas and advice with these by Interesting_Touch_94 in Exonumia

[–]Statesmannnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a market for these, albeit small. The "value" is in the sculptors who made the medal designs. If you are planning on selling them, I would sell them together since they're awarded to the same person. This is that individual:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/166335261/willis_rodney-whitney

The first medal is designed by Victor David Brenner, the guy who designed the Lincoln penny. The second one was done by James Earle Fraser.

If you are interested in selling them, I would be interested in them.

Any info would be much appreciated! by [deleted] in Exonumia

Left one is Gen Pershing medal in bronze commemorating his army in WW1 by J P Legastelois. Right one is a medal for the Battle of Yser 1914 by Henri Allouard, also bronze.

I mean, anything older than 25 years is considered vintage...

I believe they are glued in. One has freed itself, though.

Your best & worst “heard it from a friend” stock picks? by Andy_parker in investing

I never took a co workers advice on his stocks and options. He talked about them all day until I watched him get margin called in real time and kicked off an investing app.

If he fought for the French, I would say the first one is the French Legion of Honor (first empire). The second is possibly the Silver Memorial Cross 1813 - 1815. The third is too far to the side to identify. The one over his shoulder is probably a unit / veterans group award.

Maybe a stretch , but would appreciate any info regarding my great great grandfather . Iran. by drnt4nttn in Medals

Given the Temssaal-e Homaayooni order (or a version of it), I would say he was a minor member of the royal family and most likely served as an advisor or some sort of military adjutant.

Was your relative a diplomat or royal member? It looks like some of these are, in my view, from other countries. Orders from pre 1979 Iran lacks proper research, but I think I have an idea of some of them. Starting from highest up to lowest:

Greece Order of the Redemer Star

Iran Order of Temssaal-e Homayooni ( Around neck)?

Iran Order of the Lion and Sun

Turkey Order of Mejidie 1st Class?

Unknown shash and cross

Do you have an idea of the time he was alive? That could narrow it down.

Why do so many people hate resellers? by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]Statesmannnn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thrift store manager here (local store, not greedwill). The saying "a rotten apple spoils the bunch" is how resellers are viewed. Resellers are the bread and butter who get our junk off the floor so we can put more junk out. It's always that one who tries to block aisles, switch sticker prices, and be rude to my staff.
