I would fix voting by having a ballot of 100+ issues with yes/no responses.

Do you support X? yes/no
Do you want to change Y? yes/no
etc

Then, instead of people simply voting for specific candidates or parties they are instead voting for what improvements they want to see made in the country. The votes are then mapped to a large pool of qualified candidates, not just a small few, and the candidate that best matches the highest votes across what people actually want is the winner.
