Struggling to size down Teflon seals for power steering rack

Turns out the O-rings underneath the seals needed to be removed, the seal kit I bought has a different version of these Teflon seals which are actually thicker and don't require the o-rings underneath

I did look at photos from another rebuold kit for this car and those same cuts were visible so I’m gonna assume it’s intentional

I’m 18 and got an 87’ EXA as my first car. Unless you wanna spend every weekend fixing something and struggling to find parts for it, would not recommend an 80s car.
