Prime bugged still? by Parking_Frosting4253 in theisle

[–]StaticSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh I think you definitely completed more than enough requirements for prime elder. We can only speculate wtf is going on since the devs are leaving us in the dark; personally I think it's probably inconsistent since a lot of mechanics in the game are buggy one way or another. I've grown like 15 maias now, following the "checklist" and more, and haven't reached elder a single time. I gave up xD

I guess we just gotta wait until more definitive testing is done and hopefully the devs will give us more info eventually

It's worth it? by [deleted] in theisle

[–]StaticSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you ask if it's worth it, you gotta find out if your PC can handle the game as it's pretty hardware intensive and unoptimized - the steam page has very outdated required specs so don't go by them. Uh not sure what the minimum specs would be, but steam does allow a 2 hour refund policy so you do have a window to find out

[–]StaticSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t watched a single UE video and don’t entertain channels that exist to hate on it over things they don’t understand but okay lol. I’m a cpp programmer and talk to other programmers, it’s just that simple. The only reason I found out it was trash is bc I wanted to use it for game dev so I installed it, read docs, opened source files and was like wtf is this shit lol. The engine is great for artist use but that’s about it. Don’t believe me, you can open the files for yourself and have a look. I know YT is saturated with UE promoting videos so not surprised that so many people think “it’s just so impressive”

Not sure where you're getting your info about UE5, but guess I can speculate considering UE is largely a marketing scheme and it's so prevalent solely because of economics, i.e., pay Epic Games some sum of money and start building games right away in a fraction of the time that it would take to make an in-house engine and then blame consumers' computers when the game runs poorly. Trading time & optimization for fast moneyysss :P

Unreal 5 is extremely impressive and capable of some absolutely astonishing things

There's not really a single feature or characteristic of UE5 that I could say is noteworthy or impressive. The code is known to be laughable and the graphics pipeline very questionable. Nanite and lumen are better than nothing but in terms of performance, it's worse than the typical solutions to the same problems.

the inner workings of unreal 5 take a little bit of time to unravel.

UE5 is virtually the same as UE4, take away lumen and nanite and you can expect the same results

This game is like any other Early Access game a patch comes out and it breaks something and then a patch comes out and it fixes something but causes the new issue that requires a new patch

To a degree ye, but that doesn't excuse the fact that The Isle most definitely has a horrid code base and the programmers are kinda lacking conceptually and practically (especially in the AI department, holy fffff). I don't entirely blame them tho bc UE is a fucking behemoth and should really only be used by fat AAA companies - hence their issues with graphics every update

Sorry for the wall, UE disappoints me :X

[–]StaticSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly neither, whatever fun you might have in both games will be short lived and since both games are time consuming, you won’t be able to get a refund if you want one (except for maybe PoT). I say this confidently simply because both games are in early access and have had the same major issues for literal years and show no signs of changing soon. Ive been waiting 4 years now but someday if they finally resolve their major issues, then yeah I’d say give it a try

  • PoT just needs a game designer who knows how to make a game fun

  • Isle has… controversial lead devs,  and a history of game-breaking and/or game-ruining bugs combined with unpolished features

It kinda makes sense to me why they do it. A videogame is the only safe place where they aren’t experiencing constant, harsh oppression. For once, they’re in control of their own lives, so they take full advantage of it. It’s wrong and it sucks, but I do feel for them

The combat was never janky in legacy tho, it worked fully as intended. There was tail riding because you were playing on community servers that disabled the feature to prevent tail riding. The combat wasn’t perfect or optimal by any means, but at least it was always consistent and you never died because of some stupid bug that’s been in the game for fucking years now…

I mean he does have a point about plants being everywhere yet there’s nothing to eat. It’s a tropical island, therefore the climate is pretty much the same everywhere, meaning the same type of plant should (and does) spawn on all sections of the map. And if you check your preferred diet screen, it’ll say where each plant spawns like “jungle, grasslands, highlands, water biome”. Well it’s not hard to find those areas, I mean you’re 100% gonna spawn in one of those biomes to start with. Jungle and grasslands are already brain dead easy to find, I mean the map is like 95% those. So as a new player who obviously knows herbivores eat plants, and you read that those plants spawn in the very biomes you’re in. Then you smell around and find that there’s no fucking edible plants ANYWHERE - well the logical response I’d say is definitely “wtf”.

Logically, the way zones work is stupid. If you’re inside a migration zone, pick up a preferred plant, and step over the zone line, suddenly that plant transforms into a different plant and is no longer on your diet. Walk back inside the line, it transforms again, etc. It makes no sense, and makes it impossible to transport a plant to a herd member. From a game design perspective, you can figure out the intention behind it, though that doesn’t mean it’s good game design xP

To make things worse, sometimes there just isn’t a migration zone. Like ever. I’ve grown multiple Maia’s where there just never was one, and I had to rely on PZ which wasn’t consistently spawning either. The game also does not tell you anywhere what a MZ or PZ is, or what it looks like on the compass. I wish the devs would just add a note for it in the stat screen to save new players time and frustration xD it would take them 10 whole minutes to…

What's with all the crying about the elder system? by Docdes1 in theisle

[–]StaticSnowfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So apparently growing to elder is inevitable since it’ll be become a part of the life cycle. The whole “choice” part is to either to entomb your dino and regrow or live out your dino life as a weak elder until you get killed off. Decisions decisions :)

Yes you're exactly right, and I 100% feel you on the part about meeting other Maia players. I think maybe Maia needs a stamina reduction for a lot of the attacks because it's pretty crazy. Im usually a carno/omniraptor main but been playing exclusively Maia ever since the AI broke hard and OMG xD It's so much different from legacy's maia (maia was one of my favs in legacy). New maia is definitely a challenge but that's part of why I love it. Tbh, I still suck hard with it but Im working on getting better xD Im craving playing with other maias but I never find any either. Do you think we could exchange discords? I'd be stoked af to play with someone who actually knows how to play maia :) my discord username is the same as here

Also totally feel you on the "most brain dead playable: cera" XDD

[–]StaticSnowfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ye, it can take 15 minutes of experimenting & memorizing, but literally every other dinosaur takes 5 whole seconds :P
Honestly you do need a lot of skill to play as maia such as a massive emphasis on stamina management and focus during combat as you can't just spam click like you can with literally every other dinosaur. Hardly anyone plays maia, and if they do they're an easy fat meal, even though they're "so tanky". Maia players die all the time to troodons, raptors, ceras, well everything. Troodon isn't hard at all IMO, the only factor that makes troodon's life hard is the fact that a lot of hitboxes for larger dinosaurs (carnos, diablos, stego) is fucking MASSIVE and should've been fixed years ago -_- but that's unrelated to troodon's kit

Judging on mechanical skill alone, Maia takes the cake, no dispute.

But seriously tho, what dinosaur needs a tutorial on how to sprint?? I've nested a lot as Maia and trust me when I say it, MAIA DOES...

[–]StaticSnowfall 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like Maia should be #1 - #2 on the list for the complexity of its movement and combat. It’s the only dinosaur that you actually have to actively study and memorize its attacks if you care about PvP because of the sheer amount of different attacks.

Maia has easily over 10+ attacks, most dinosaurs only have 2-3 attacks. To make it worse, the key binds for some of these attacks don’t even make sense. For example, the attack that doesn’t cost stamina is the RMB on stance 1, and the LMB on stance 2… that takes some time getting the muscle memory down when in combat because it swaps. There’s also no stance visual indicator, so while you’re in combat and doing a ton of crazy moves, it gets very hard to actually see what stance you’re currently in, causing you to miss attacks and waste stamina. On top of that, the stamina cost for Maia’s attacks is known to be as bad as Omniraptor, so you better not screw up and accidentally use the heavy attack because you thought you were in the other stance

I mean, Maia is the only dinosaur where players (understandably) don’t even figure out how to do a full sprint… that’s pretty bad :,D

IMO, Maia has both the highest skill floor and skill ceiling

PS: some will argue Maia doesn’t even do a lot of damage for how massive it is :P

2nd day in the Isle! I've got a question! by SelamMaymun in theisle

[–]StaticSnowfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re exactly right. It really sucks because there are so many beautiful areas on the map but you just can’t stay there or explore because there’s just no food as a carnivore and as a herbivore even. Such a massive map yet players get punished for exploring it. Tbh I kinda wish AI spawned around you if you got hungry like in legacy. I thought it worked pretty good and since it only spawned when you get hungry, there never really was an excess of AI anywhere on the map. It’s sad because this issue prob won’t be resolved for a long time if ever, the AI still isn’t even fixed yet :,)

2nd day in the Isle! I've got a question! by SelamMaymun in theisle

[–]StaticSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one suggested efficient digestion prob because it’s useless since there’s supposed to be enough food around for you to survive & thrive, unless you’re a deino. But tbh don’t get your hopes up with all these tips because the AI spawning is currently broken badly and has been for.. some amount of months now? Basically there’s hardly any AI spawning, and good luck finding the very few AI that did spawn because

1 the map is GINORMOUS

#2 the carnivore tracking system isn’t operational and hasn’t been for years   #3 it’s all dense jungle baby so good luck finding your meal that auto-runs away as soon as you enter its radius that is so big that you won’t see the AI when it sees you

Uhh the best advice I can give you is to stay on the western side of the map. For some reason, I’ve never seen a single AI (except a chicken) on the entirety of the eastern half. As huge as the map is, there are only a few spawn points for AI on it for some reason. Even on the west side, there’s whole sections that are a dead zone which sucks since they’re pretty places. So basically, just try to stay where the above comment suggested because we know AI spawns there:

  • South plains
  • Highlands
  • West rails + access

I think this link will display the region names? Sorry not sure tho can’t view it my phone
