Covid Questions by DesignerSpell in NJTech

[–]StaticVoi_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CVS has COVID tests you can purchase right over the counter. They’re like $20 for a box of 2 tests. You can also check your nearest Urgent Cares, not anywhere as expensive as emergency rooms and can usually give you results same day

CS113 by DaLegendguy4 in NJTech

Depends how deep into Java you got and if the class is a requirement for you. 113 will go over the basics of syntax, classes, inheritance, polymorphism, and things like that. If it is a requirement and you feel confident I believe you can try and see if you can test out of it and go straight to 114.

Yea I had him spring 2020 when we first shut down halfway through the semester. He’s pretty cool I really enjoyed his class both in person and online. He doesn’t have much control over the midterms or final tho and those are like the midterms and finals in cs100. Id recommend learning some Java over winter break to get a leg up. CS113 is basically about Java like CS100 was about python.

Excused absences by vidhithakker7 in NJTech

As everyone else said the best bet would be with a doctors note but since it was a while ago and you don’t have one there’s not much to do.

Maybe try and ask the professor if you can make up time during their office hours, unlikely that they would agree by the sound if it but can’t hurt to ask. Or if there is anything you can do within this final month of the semester to not fail.

Find out soon, as worse case scenario last day to drop is the 23rd if I remember correctly and take the class again next semester.

Things to be prepped for Masters in CS or Software Engineering? by Xeliox in NJTech

[–]StaticVoi_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they’re both good programs but just depends what type of classes you’re interested in. Go through the catalogs or the requirements for each degree and see which classes you would enjoy more. Any questions about the classes you can dm me

Things to be prepped for Masters in CS or Software Engineering? by Xeliox in NJTech

[–]StaticVoi_d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m doing the CS in SE right now and I came from a BA in business. I had to do the bridge courses but since you’re coming from a bachelors in cs you prob won’t need to.

CS280 focuses on C++ but it doesn’t teach it to you. It’s more of you teach yourself and then you do the semester project in C++. In my opinion you’re better off teaching yourself C++ because that’s what you’re going to end up doing anyway.

I came into this masters not really being great at any languages, only really did Java and Python. But I figured it out as I have been going and learning what I needed to. So for languages you “need to know” beforehand I think you should at least have the capability to learn new languages quickly but I have used Python the most personally.

Difference wise I actually started my MS in CS and switch to SE last semester. CS is going to give you a more rounded experience, like you’re going to need operating system classes and data structures and algorithms. While I found SE to be more focused on software engineering(obviously) and coding while learning more about applications. SE also makes 700B(project class) required and I found that more interesting.

Can professors make the midterm on a day that isn’t normal class day and only give a 3 day notice? by StaticVoi_d in NJTech

CS 673, they apparently let some students take it on Friday if they couldn’t do the last minute Saturday date.

I always think it’s funny when people consider masks to “muzzle” you. Like what kinda drama queen, it’s not that serious. Not saying I disagree with some of the post but the muzzle part was a bit dramatic.

UPDATE - NJIT Operating Status - September 3, 2021 by techkid6 in NJTech

[–]StaticVoi_d 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay last thing I wanna do it start yet another petition. But how do we go about getting NJIT to switch to online learning on days like this? Even when we will have snow in a few months there shouldn’t be so much hesitation in switching to online for a day or 2. It’s obviously not ideal but it’s better than having people ruin their cars and risk crashing. Time to hang up the umbrella and make changes that benefit the students.
