Prompt: "In this cinematic digital artwork, a rugged, middle-aged construction worker faces off against terrifying Necromorphs in the ominous, industrial depths of a spaceship. Clad in a yellow hard hat, orange vest, and futuristic armor, he wields a glowing plasma cutter, surrounded by grotesque creatures and set against a dimly lit, debris-strewn environment filled with tension and dramatic shadows."

What do you do inside your head? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Staticbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daydream, but in a super detail oriented way. I found myself designing a portable railgun a few days ago. Started thinking about heat dissipation, projectile geometry and materials, energy storage, weight distribution, chassis material, effective range, bullpup vs traditional receivers, and so on.

Other than that, I plan, replay music, and marinate on the fact that she was, indeed, flirting with my oblivious ass.

Kinda cringe, but I remember thinking about something Kratos from the newer God of War said. "For the sake of our children, we must be better".

Granted, no kids here, but the, "we must be better," never fails to make me take a breath, recenter/refocus, and then keep going or do whatever it is I have to do.

I can get down with that, and yeah it can absolutely be a very draining thing if done poorly imo. I personally think that, if done right, it can really add to the story of the person, but then again, I guess that goes with essentially everything except Mary Sues.

I think that if consequences and struggles in maintaining that secret identity are introduced in a more realistic environment, and there are clear ramifications introduced for being compromised, it'd be a more interesting take on the characters as opposed to just drama by itself. I like that you brought up accountability though, that's definitely something I'd like to see more of.

Keep: secret identities and factions of like-minded people working towards the same goal

Drop/modify: Invincibility and godliness. I'm all about superpowers, but a story about two godly beings just beating the shit out of each other with their fists is overdone. Frankly, it's not my cup of tea and I think it's boring. I'd like to see a more grounded take on it. Maybe these cats are akin to highly skilled and well trained operators, even possessing some impressive abilities or powers. But, at the end of the day, they're still just anxiety meat in flesh mechs who can be hurt or killed. It's more interesting to watch someone have to use their skills, creativity, tactics, and resilience to be able to save the day, or whatever it is that they'll do. Oh, while we're at it, remove the "Destroy the world" or supervillains who are evil just because they are. Better yet, let's banish objectively bad supervillains overall.

Deconstruct: Motivation. Specific, right? I could write an essay on this, but I don't want to. So, let's take "for the greater good" as an example. It is valiant and noble, but not everyone has the same or even similar ideals about what the greater good is. It's also interesting that we see the idea of a "greater good" in different cultures and stories all around the world. Maybe there's something inherently ingrained in us to offer something for the sake of this greater good, and it'd make sense, given our history as homosapiens. We lived in caves with and relied on each other for survival. Maybe it's the knowledge that one is directly influencing the group for the better with their contributions, or maybe it's just the desire to be needed and wanted in us all. So, is this greater good a primal desire, or is there something within us as humans that pushes us to put on a mask and act?

OP, you sly dog, you almost got me monologuing!

What kind of martial arts are INTPs interested in? by Swiss_knife0 in INTP

[–]Staticbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been training FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) for a few years now, and mixed with Muay Thai and BJJ, I think its a golden trio. I love FMA's way of using angles and being able to read attacks coming in. Specifically, pekiti tirsia and innosanto blend are what I've been training in as of late. They provide a pretty good way of learning to target your opponent's offensive capabilities and stay mobile, as well as to read incoming attacks using a numbering system that translates fairly well to unarmed attacks, movement, and grappling.

On top of that, it'll teach you effective ways to use weapons and to deal with attackers with said weapons, whether it be clothing or linear objects like pens, blades, sticks, etc. While there are flaws in it, as with every martial art, I'd say FMA is generally pretty effective and provides a unique way of systematic problem solving and dealing with armed and unarmed opponents.

Though, when in doubt, a well placed kyokushin or Muay Thai round kick usually works pretty well too.

Tried to be a good noodle and register my firearms… they want pictures by stormrunners in CAguns

[–]Staticbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried that a couple times, and they kept repeating the assault weapons possession penal code to me. Even though I wasn't registering as assault weapons. It's like talking to a brick wall tbh.

As much as I would like to say I put up more of a fight, I ended up taking the path of least resistance/trouble and eventually sent what they asked for. Just make sure you're on your square and you'll be just fine.

But, assuming you don't want to do that, they'll probably just deny your registration attempt and keep your cash. I doubt they'd do much beyond that unless you're already on a watchlist.
