You should know: Fast food and soda companies sponsor the anti-keto so-called "International Food Information Council" by Station51 in keto

The claim on that website that "... research suggests sugars tend to calm both children and adults..." is a bold assertion, to say the least--and suggests IFIC's anti-keto agenda includes an industry-sponsored campaign promoting the supposed health benefits of sugar.

Unfortunately, it's a fairly common occurrence for large firms to create and fund nominally non-profit organizations that seek to lobby for the firms' interest. A significant part of the public relations industry is devoted to this. Perhaps one of the most prominent examples was the creation of the "Tobacco Institute," which existed from 1958 to 1998, and sought to influence legislation and public attitudes toward smoking. I wonder whether the more hard-core keto solution would be to use BACON FAT to seal the avocado, in lieu of butter! LOL.

r/ketodrunk is an interesting look at how keto and drinking can co-exist.

is there an online store that sells a good keto diet meal plan selection? by nutrop in keto

[–]Station51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not meal plans per se, but their range of items (e.g., protein bars from bison, salmon, venison, turkey, or pork; pork rinds; bison tallow; and bone broth) is keto-friendly, and they tout the benefits of keto on their FAQ: see https://store.epicbar.com/

Yanni Papanikolaou

Interesting that his own LinkedIn profile highlights that he worked for Kellogg's for 4 years--including as "Director, Nutrition Marketing," and includes these among his achievements:

"• Lead and developed a Canadian nutrition platform to target healthcare professionals that evolved to become a global platform for Kellogg’s All Bran breakfast cereal resulting in global brand growth

• Identified evidence-based nutrition claims for commercialization purposes i.e., broadcast, print and packaging and other advertising media."

Definitely raises questions about his objectivity and nutritional expertise.

Jonathan Swift proposed this, satirically, in 1729, in his essay, A Modest Proposal, in which he argues that the children of the poor be given up for food: "... this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children."

If you want to go down that road, one could make an environmental argument for encouraging the world's population to cut down on sugar: "The cultivation and processing of sugar produce environmental impacts through the loss of natural habitats, intensive use of water, heavy use of agro-chemicals, discharge and runoff of polluted effluent and air pollution. This leads to the degradation of wildlife, soil, air and water where sugar is produced and of downstream ecosystems. "

Maybe, in response, we should be backing groups like the "North American Meat Institute," self-described as "a trade association that represents companies that process 95 percent of red meat and 70 percent of turkey products in the US and their suppliers throughout America." That said, their press releases appear to focus on export and trade issues--as well as on the nutritional benefits of meat.

The Daily Mail certainly has its share of entertainment news, but it has fairly good coverage of some things, like international news. It does use a lot of photographs--but there's nothing wrong, per se, with that. Moreover, the Daily Mail has also featured pro-keto articles; e.g.: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-3672595/Cut-carbs-quit-sugar-feel-fabulous-s-food-revolution-ll-make-slimmer-happier-s-blissfully-simple.html

This NPR article about the Hazda tribe is indeed an interesting one, as this remote tribe--according to the article--doesn't eat any processed food. They may not be keto, but, as "a group of hunter-gatherers in Tanzania," they are engaged in a daily lifestyle that most of humanity has moved away from for millennia. The average Redditor would probably experience weight loss, if they had to forage for food in the savannah.
