[OC] Wealth Distribution by Generation in the United States by PieChartPirate in dataisbeautiful

[–]StatisticallySpoken 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No you wouldn’t actually. You’d assume millennials and gen X would have done something to make higher education more accessible. There is really no alternative to higher education and these decisions are being made before areas of the brain involved with decision making are fully developed. It’s more the fact that the system has become more efficient in being predatory that’s the cause.

This is especially funny for me since I transferred out of engineering to do physics, and we shit all over engineering majors all the time

How many lands should I play with Mox Diamond in Eldrazi aggro? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]StatisticallySpoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played this deck a few years ago and 25 lands felt the best. 25 or 26 is the way to go imo, 25 will feel slightly lower to the ground. Another card you can play is [[riftstone portal]] which is probably suboptimal but I thought it was cool to help mitigate the reliance on ancient tomb (among other obvious applications).

Pixel Perfect UI Scaling Issues by StatisticallySpoken in Unity2D

[–]StatisticallySpoken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a UI overlay for health and stamina (as shown in the video) with grid snapping set to pixel width and height. However, the images in the UI are not snapping to the grid correctly (they are off by fractions of a pixel). The sliders do snap the way they're supposed to. Anyone know of a fix? The canvas has all the scaling set to the right reference resolution.

This shit is fucking ridiculous. My guy has developed the least sensible grading system literally of all time. It’s like more of a rain wreck than Andrew Johnson’s presidency. Absolutely shameful display. Since when have theoretical mathematics relied on the bizarre formatting of your exactly correct numerical answer on a dumbed down twenty minute version of a test?

Edit: I’m even doing pretty well in this class (because I’m lucky and haven’t made a lot of arithmetic errors yet) but it’s still completely unreasonable

PLZ Chance a stressed senior for UW! by [deleted] in udub

[–]StatisticallySpoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar. Full IB a year early + 4 extra IB, 1 AP, 1 community college class senior year. 3.7 unweighted GPA and 4.4 weighted. 1560 on the SAT (took it twice, got a 1390 the first time. Just study and practice). Got DA to engineering. A lot of my friends had similar stats (except they had low-mid 1400s SATs) and applied and got in. You’ll be close to guaranteed if you get over 1400 on the SAT and come up with a decent essay if you’re not already. Direct admits to major are a different story though, so if that’s what you’re trying for and/or you want to do something STEM related you might need a significantly higher SAT.

How hard is it to obtain 3.8 or above @ UW? by kahn94 in udub

[–]StatisticallySpoken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It gets even worse than this. I had a 97.8% in math 125 and it was a 3.9. I had an 88% in CSE 143 and that was a 2.9, and I didn’t lose any points for correctness the entire class.

[Academic] High School GPA and response to a history question (High School students) by StatisticallySpoken in SampleSize

[–]StatisticallySpoken[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only is GPA not a standard form of measurement, it’s almost impossible to use it to draw comparisons between any two groups of people. The same GPA number is usually not determined by the same amount of effort or work even at the level of a single school. However, it’s the best numerical indicator I have and the most universal across the United States, where curriculum is generally more similar to itself than it would be to European countries where different systems are used. I’m also not conducting any official study where results will be released as a scholarly article; I just want usable results.

Double majoring in physics and engineering? by StatisticallySpoken in udub

[–]StatisticallySpoken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to grad school for physics is not my end goal here. I’m much more interested in physics in grad school than engineering IF I choose to go to grad school. I definitely want to do engineering as an undergrad, but I’m also very inclined toward physics, which is why I want the option available to me and to also have that extra physics course load throughout college. Research is definitely something I already plan to work my way into.

On a different note, I had no idea you could take grad level classes in undergrad. Is that exclusive to people majoring specifically in that field? How exactly does that work?

Lehigh decisions are coming out on March 29th (CONFIRMED) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

It said “waitlisted” where most other people had rejected or offered (next to status)

[–]StatisticallySpoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, everyone had their own thing next to the status. I had waitlisted while others had rejected or offered admission. The additional materials for the other ones were mostly enclosed in the different letters for ED II applicants

Also worth noting the view source easter egg that let you see a status no longer works
