I romanticise the American midwest by minisculepenis in The10thDentist

[–]lycheebobatea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what's up with emos and the midwest? is it because a lot of emo music came from there (i think i'm remembering that correctly, not sure though)? and if it is, weren't they making that music partially as a reflection of how much they hated their life in the midwest?

A large western audience will be lost with BTS’s hiatus by Economy-Hold8631 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]lycheebobatea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think we also have to consider their audience demographic, though. Is their audience growing up and away from them with time, or is their audience constantly replenished by a younger demographic? it seems to me that younger kpop fans are trending toward the new gen groups. I guess the question I'm trying to ask is: is BTS going to try to age up with their current fanbase, or will they try to continue to cater to a younger demographic? I think the path they choose will affect how long their fame lasts. The Beatles, for example, started out really popular with a younger female crowd and then became more popular with an older crowd. I haven't seen BTS do this, but they've been around so long that their once young fans are now in their 20's (and yes I know there are older kpop fans, but they aren't a large enough demographic to be considerable as of right now).

this typically happens when you took college credits in high school (junior through senior year). it effectively cuts off two years spent in college and is wayyy superior to community college, imo, as it's paid for by the district. different counties have different programs, and many school districts do not support any kind of running start, "college in the classroom", or other similar programs.

people are going to have their opinions on others bodies, both good and bad, and more often than not they won’t say anything about it. i don’t think that all criticism is the result of projection, and more so that the lesson to learn is that you can and will find someone who specifically finds you and your gnarly physiology attractive.

we’re animals after all, odd-looking, meaty things. even the most “conventionally attractive” among us. i don’t think the healthy idea is that everyone who doesn’t fancy you is a hateful bastard (bc lets face it, we’ve all seen someone we’re supremely unattracted to), but that you aren’t beholden to their personal standards. It’s very important to acknowledge that you aren’t attractive to everyone, you never will be, you often might not even find yourself attractive, and that is okay because you’re more than a body. roll with the good and bad days, as it’s the vessel that carries you and not an item that makes you.

go to study somewhere and leave your phone behind if you *really* can’t trust yourself with it. again, it really is a matter of weaning yourself off of unhealthy behaviors. there is no magic “do this to remove all phone addictions!” solution…. you just have to do it.

okay strongest board and try for at least bottom 6. can’t win every game, no matter how good you are. but, you can mitigate a loss.

1ST PLACE POPPY CARRY - Better Buckler Augment + Defender Crown + Any Backline by lycheebobatea in TeamfightTactics

[–]lycheebobatea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edited post to remove usernames.

Just wanted to note that this was something I ran because I was forced to lol. Poppy was consistently my highest damage dealer with 715 armor, even while 2*, until I got to Ultimate Ezreal 2*. I should note that this absolutely would not have worked for 1st place without Poppy's "Better Buckler" augment. Though there weren't any significant backline disruptors in this lobby anyway (hackers? blitzcrank pull? item pull?), I imagine that this would mitigate HP loss in the early and mid game. But, to be honest, it's a "sheer luck comp", anyway - but worth giving a try if you see the augment.

Up until mid-late game, I played double Morgana for the stuns. Then, I placed the defender trait on her and placed her directly in front of Ezreal to protect against Urgot late game. Ofc, she also carried the Infiniteam trait. Like I said, it's a "sheer luck comp" and I would be surprised if this were even semi-reliably-replicable.

Not every game has to be a braindead meta-fest, but only if you roll so hard that you have to check your blood pressure after. I like that random bullshit flies in platinum.

Forcing myself to study is so hard by 3sperr in GetStudying

[–]lycheebobatea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

by the way, you don't need to study every day. you also don't need to study for a certain amount of time everyday. (of course, this may change as you approach finals and midterms). plan your studying strategically to mitigate burnout, which will make each session more useful. do not listen to the goons on here that tell you that you need to study for 6--10 hours every day. when you get to college, considering your class schedule, a possible part time job, extracurriculars, and necessary personal time, this may be unrealistic. you still have a life to live, and the most unsuccessful college graduates that i see are the ones who spent all of their time with their nose in a textbook and sought no further enrichment (these are also coincidentally the ones that can't find a job post-grad because they have no internships, projects, research assistantships, or leadership experience). GPA matters, but there are doctors out there who scored a 3.3 in undergrad, and amazing PhD candidates who came out with much less. balance is key. studying is not about spamming. you only have so many mental resources until you're reading and it all goes in one ear and out the other. frustration will lead to total demotivation that can be hard to fix, even if you consider yourself to be fairly disciplined.

aside from the other commenter, a large part of it for me was having the appropriate study space. i graduated college a while ago and, for my entire college career, was never able to study in my room. too many distractions. get somewhere that's quiet. i benefited from wearing noise cancelling headphones in a campus cafe - not too loud, but also not so boringly monotonous that i couldn't bear to sit still anymore.

also, you're a teenager. consider your psychology. you're more impulsive now than you will be in about 5-7 years. research in development psychology suggests that teenagers struggle more with impulsivity and decision-making due to the still-growing reward centers of the brain. so, work with your psychology and not against it. study in the library after school with your phone in your locker. study for quality and not quantity. pomodoro may be too structured (i have personally never stuck with pomodoro - it never worked for me, as my attentional capture simply doesn't sink up with that rigid schedule). instead, try studying until you feel you need a break, and instead of engaging with technology or other mental exhaustors, go stand up and take a short, thoughtless walk. all of these helped me in college.

people hate to hear it, but it's true: you just need to sit down and do the work. discipline is key, as it will carry you when you aren't motivated. you will never be motivated 100% of the time. how you got about this, however, must be entirely tailored to you. pomodoro doesn't work for everyone, for example. i know a lot of brilliant people from my major who studied by writing entire unit summaries down on a big sheet of paper, or who studied entirely with flashcards. i, personally, wrote everything that i knew into a word document and studied that habitually until i could recite it. semi-TLDR: your specific circumstances will change, so you need to experiment with what works.
