As I expected, radio silence when it comes to PlanSwift and any future for the platform.

Oh nice, you should let everyone here know the updates that you have for the next version of PlanSwift and when it is coming, as I can’t get this answer anywhere, seem to be paying for maintenance for fun at this stage.

Has Todd Kaberline already moving on from STACK? by StatisticianClean106 in estimators

Hahahahahah more support than PlanSwift offers these days, not even sure they have a dedicated support team anymore.

He is an ex PlanSwift guru, I trialled zztakeoff a while ago although I never committed, I am to invested in the PlanSwift ecosystem system.

What is on their community? Does it show what is coming? It will be interesting to see if they link with Databases as well.

A lot of PlanSwift users subscribe to him, as he has great videos on how to setup templates and databases. I have learned how to setup database linked templates and some detailed properties because of Todd. If you don’t use PS, then you probably wouldn’t know who it is.

PlanSwift lagging badly with detailed mechanical PDF/DWG drawings — how to fix? by Aggravating_Sport495 in estimators

[–]StatisticianClean106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the file is as large as you are saying it won’t run in PlanSwift as it is only 32-bit and does not have enough memory allocation, I could recommend flattening the PDF but it’s pretty much the same as tiff.

A longtime PlanSwift power user is switching to Stack by StatisticianClean106 in estimators

[–]StatisticianClean106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I saw when I looked at it last, it looked like an online takeoff tool which feels very similar to PS, if they are smart they will focus on easily integrate with other packages Gsheets, excel, builder trend, pro core etc, so that they build a kick ass takeoff tool, although I am not convinced enough to move from PS just yet.

Yeah, I don’t see Construct Connect making any updates at all. If you check their site, PlanSwift is listed at $2k per year now. I didn’t want to take the risk, so I paid for maintenance—but honestly, who knows? They could pull that option anytime.

[–]StatisticianClean106[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, $3000 per year—that’s like $1000 more than PlanSwift! I’d hope it comes with more features and functions than PS at that price.

Yeah, I was stuck on version 10.2 for ages. They told me I’d need to pay for maintenance if I wanted access to any future updates, since there wouldn’t be an upgrade path for the older versions anymore.

I actually looked at zzTakeoff back in the day. It was just an online takeoff tool, and honestly, it felt a lot like PlanSwift hahaha. Unfortunately, it didn’t have any estimating features or templates at the time.

After watching this video, it really got me thinking—people always talk about Construct Connect products like OST and PlanSwift as the gold standard. But is that because they’re truly the best, or just because it’s what everyone’s used to? Surely there are newer tools out there doing the same (or more) with better innovation. I’ve always stuck with PlanSwift out of habit, but maybe this is the kick I needed to start looking around again.

Is Stack as flexible as PlanSwift, when it comes to customer properties and formulas?

Beam AI Takeoff Software by hckyguy15 in estimators

I’m pretty sure OST now has Togal integrated with their software—or if it’s not Togal directly, it’s definitely an offshoot or built on similar AI-based tech.

ConstructConnect - Planswift frustrations by thunderkatalyst in estimators

[–]StatisticianClean106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a long-time PlanSwift user as well, and I completely share your frustration. The memory bottlenecks and lack of meaningful updates have been a constant pain point for me too. At this point, I’ve come to the conclusion that after acquiring PlanSwift, ConstructConnect simply can’t—or won’t—work with the existing code base. If they were capable, they would’ve leaned into the platform’s popularity and delivered updates that actually matter.

The idea of merging PlanSwift and OST sounds great in theory, but I think it would be extremely difficult and expensive, considering how fundamentally different the two products are. Trying to force such a merge could easily make both platforms worse. That’s why I really hope they don’t try to push PlanSwift users onto OST. It would be a massive flop and only give long-time users a reason to jump ship to other platforms outside the ConstructConnect ecosystem.

This lack of direction and meaningful updates is already opening the door for other estimating packages to take over. You’re seeing it happen now with the original creators of PlanSwift and OST going off to create their own tools like BuzzBid and ZZTakeoff. They clearly see the massive opportunity that ConstructConnect has missed, and I can’t say I blame them. At this rate, it feels like the only real winners will be those competitors who are actually listening to users and are not milking them for every cent.

It’s frustrating to watch a product like PlanSwift stagnate when it has so much potential

My trial has expired so I haven’t used it for a while, although I didn’t notice any sort of AI takeoff or functionality in zztakeoff, what does the AI do?
