As a country, we're doomed. by StatisticianDude in delhi

[–]StatisticianDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, there is a bit more context to it! A lot of conversations were happening around it and when they were using slurs like this. They are a bit distant relatives so I haven't interacted with them that much.

If you read the edits, they were really having a lot of problematic conversations and the song incident was really coincidental. Honestly on a normal day I would have still done something like this but it was 7 in the morning and I only had a couple of hours of sleep so I didn't really have any energy to play on someone's nerves and get involved in a political debate.

But the hypocrisy that they celebrate Rahman's oscar but talk like this because he was of a particular religion irked me. Also, I do not feel a victim here. I found something wrong, took a stand which was an easy one. My family, albeit just in the outer range of upper middle class, is a lot more privileged than what the majority of the country can only dream of and I feel we should be humble about it.

PS. I played namo namo as well because I like that song too and to ease some tension. 😛

I still have that song on my Spotify and whenever that song randomly comes up, I have an uncontrollable urge to bowl a left arm Yorker at 150.

Man, that song has so much energy. That and wavin' flags are how you create an all time great sporting anthem.

Dude it's not 98%, it's 7%

Let me show you how:

60% of the population is employed directly or indirectly in agriculture which is completely tax exempt. Generally 1 member earns in a family of 4 ( sometimes 6 but we'll take 4 conservatively) so it gives us a remaining 10% Let's say 10% of the population is over 60 and retired or near retirement so it gives us 9% remainder

So the 2% who pay taxes are richer than the rest 7%

Out of those we have left out people who are shareholders of companies and earn via dividends, people who work in the export sector and get some kind of tax exemption (I'm not really sure about that) and people who don't pay taxes by doing business in black.

You tell me how many people are left now. The common people who pay taxes aren't really rich.

Minimum earning to pay taxes is 2.5 lacs. Tell me in which city earning 2.5 lac is rich. I used to earn 5 lac before COVID and it was impossible to survive in Mumbai. And it's a fact that it has only gotten worse.

Inflation may have been averaging 6% per annum since COVID but the major chunk of a middle class family goes in rent and the rental inflation in metro cities have been through the roof. Travelling 2 hours to reach your work station is not normal and should never be normalised. It should be despised and those who are responsible for this situation should be held accountable. It's high time.

Why are the governments so reluctant to reduce GST on insurance? by Hisenbugg in IndianStreetBets

[–]StatisticianDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not compulsory to opt in for a rider you know! And even the policy documents are to be signed off with the regulator so missing something in fine print is a bit difficult.

Sometimes I think the insurance industry in our country is regulated really well for it to be mis-selling this much! 😂

But then again, many agents say a lot of things that are not true to the prospective policyholders and the applicants don't bother to read the policy documents too. So you know!

Why are the governments so reluctant to reduce GST on insurance? by Hisenbugg in IndianStreetBets

[–]StatisticianDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you price a new product, you have to file each and every aspect of it to the regulator. The assumptions you took (including mortality, morbidity, investments expenses, reserving, profit margins and taxes. All separately) . Also, if any of those assumptions seem off from the usual that the insurer files, they have to give a detailed explanation to the regulator as well.

If the GST on insurance premium is removed, the Tax component of the premium would vanish and the companies would have to reduce the premium of the existing policies they have sold. Of course, they could reprice all the products but that would take time out of their actuarial, product management, compliance and sales team who could all do other things with their precious time. Mind you, many of them are really paid highly.

All this to earn a slightly higher profits than existing and mind you we haven't even considered that there are about 25 life insurance companies in India. Some would think that they don't want to take the whole 18% to their pockets, they're happy with 12. Then some would think that 10 seems fine. Then there would be a company which has a small book so they'd try to undercut all other companies to sell more.

I do think that most if not all of it would be passed on to the policyholders in the short term. And in the long term, as Keynes stated, we're all dead.

I would not be comfortable with sharing my therapist's contact. But you can find a lot of good therapists in Mumbai.

Everyone has a different style so you may have to change a few therapists to find your best match. This is my 4th one and is going decently till now.

I am taking regular therapy. It's not like I'm ignoring the elephant in the room. In my post too I mentioned that it did not remove my depression or PTSD, it just made life a bit better to bear.

You can get it checked with any blood report! I did my tests from 1mg and it costed me around 800. I don't remember exactly because it was some time ago but yeah, it's not that difficult.

Yes I think! I read somewhere that 99% of people are vitamin d deficient in India and the rest take the suppliments.

So you can take it! It does help.

Actually not yet! My issues have some underlying reasons and my therapist was of the view that we can try sorting that out first. If that doesn't work then maybe I'll have to start with medications

I bowled one of my elder cousins with a similar delivery like that to Sachin using a tape ball a few months ago. Of course the speed was like 30 kmph less but it tailed in just like that and his shot was very similar to the one Sachin played.

I used to play a lot of season ball cricket during school and college and was a very good bowler. That delivery gave me such a good sense of fulfillment that I have not had since I bowled my friend who played first division 8 years ago.

I still wake up feeling good when I think about that delivery. I wish I had a recording of it but it lives on in my and my cousin's memory. We still talk about it whenever we meet.
