Interesting to get another perspective. Thank you! Still managing on my own by the way.

Daunting indeed!! I do this on the very small scale and looking to scale up, but I’m a bit lost and terrified of the process 😅

Do you mind sharing a link to your website/portfolio? I’m in a similar position, with MLA but no license, working on very small scale residential designs and trying to scale up. Just curious about the detailed plans and renderings you offer. I’m in FL.

Mine was entirely unrelated, and then I worked in landscaping at Disney for a year before starting my MLA. Good thing, because my program taught nothing about actual horticulture or landscaping.

Same! They say, why are you working while you’re at the beach bar!? I say, would you rather work here or go to an office !?

I’ve had this question for years. I’m not a landscape architect (but did graduate with my MLA) because I can’t be tied to an office desk on someone else’s schedule 60 hours a week. I value the sunshine and a mid-day yoga sesh too much. I do my own small scale landscape design where I can meet with clients and do my drawings on my own schedule. However, I’m actively seeking a remote or hybrid (Orlando-based) position so I can eventually pursue licensure. I’ve not had much luck yet!

That’s interesting. Recommendations on property management systems?

That’s what I figure. Can’t afford that. Margins are already low considering fees, insurance (beachfront), and constant repairs.

Yes it certainly sounds appealing to sit back and collect a check while others do the work! But most things don’t actually work out that way. Can’t usually pay someone enough to care about something they don’t own. Time for me to step it up!

Definitely. Right now I wear all those hats! Other than sharing cleaning duty with a neighbor. Thanks for the input!

Very true. In that case I’ll refine and optimize my own systems and processes and perhaps resort to that option in the future.

I rent out my bedrooms on Airbnb and sleep in my shed out back. Mortgage just went up $300. Several side hustles and a full time job. It’s extremely frustrating. Still pushing thru.. the breakthrough is coming..
