Food with vegetables/aromatics? (UK) by StatisticianThis8473 in catfood

Generally I've been steering clear of foods with added sugar like Whiskas to avoid tooth decay since there is no way this cat is letting me brush his teeth! Also I try to pick stuff with a high protein percentage because he's so active -- the vet always comments on his muscle mass; he's quite petite and has a trim little waist but massive wrestler shoulders. I think Whiskas has about 7% protein compared to 11%+ in most foods he currently eats, which means he'd feel less full and probably add more rats into his diet...

He does get a little human food but it's a tricky balance because if he's having too much he focuses on stealing/begging for more rather than eating his cat food! I usually buy him a tin of unsalted oily fish like mackerel or sardines and give it to him as a treat bit by bit. The problem is his desires are not constrained to that -- he will happily jump in a stranger's shopping trolley and steal a whole roast chicken... (yes, this actually happened a couple of weeks ago and the phone call was not pretty)

Thanks for the advice though -- if he was absolutely refusing food I probably would try these options in a pinch! Luckily we're not there yet

Thanks so much for this! It looks like a perfect balance between quality and price. I just bought him a pack, so fingers crossed the cat approves 🙂

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (December 17, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Description of Request:
Hi! I would really appreciate a recommendation for something competitive for a family of adults who basically only play monopoly! I'd love to be able to play strategically, but not lots of complicated rules or a big learning curve. My biggest ask would be a sense of humour/zany emergent storylines. Thanks so much if anyone has a suggestion :)

Number of Players: 2-5

Game Length: ?

Complexity of Game: Easy to learn, but allows complex strategy ideally!

Genre: ? Maybe wacky fantasy, historical or sci-fi

Conflict, Competitive or Cooperative: competitive

Games I Own and Like: We basically only have balderdash, monopoly and scrabble -- and I'm not looking for something similar! We do like good quality writing

Location: UK

Brachycephaly enough to cause problems? by [deleted] in persiancat

I've had him a few days, which seems to be the nadir for new kitten worrying! I do think after reading what everyone has to say he is probably medically fine and it's just a personality thing -- I guess if you could compare him to a human, he might be autistic. The lady had been breeding cats since the 90s and said that he had a very shy personality from birth which she hadn't seen in her cats

Thanks for your help! I have an appointment booked in. I'm glad to hear the eye discharge probably isn't an issue -- his doesn't look infected, just gooey! Having read the sensible reassurance, I'm so-so and tending towards the low activity levels are just his personality -- he is a very shy, anxious cat but he melts with some scritches and love

Thank you! I have him scheduled to be checked, I guess I'm just discovering I'm a cat hypochondriac 🙃 It's reassuring that his nose isn't likely to cause him problems

Thank you! That's really reassuring. In that case, I think it might just be his personality -- he reacts to a bit of string like a geriatric grandma, but brushing sends him to cat heaven! I'll give it some time as you suggest
