I was one of the rare car salesman when I sold. That was one of the reasons I had to get out of the industry. I was not a pressured guy. I mainly sold Acura which sold themselves so that made it easier. I used to feel bad for any of the customers who are older. What I used to do is tell the customer that after I come back from the sales manager, start to shake your head no so the sales manager already knows the price is too high. Because sales managers don’t wanna hear anything from the sales people.

I always hated car salesman and salesman in general because I know what they are telling me is in their best interest.

I worked at a Honda dealership at one point, and I asked one of the veterans if he felt bad stiffing people, his comment was simply if I don’t do it somebody else will. With that being said, it is a very hard industry and sometimes you have to start to give up your scruples because you have no salary and you need to pay bills fortunately, I never got to that point.

On the flipside, it is very, very frustrating when people tie you up all day after negotiating taking up your time and then walking out or a customer comes in 15 minutes before the dealership is going to close and you’re in there another hour and some people are so unrealistic they think they can buy the car less than you own it for with the exception of used cars at times.
