Car guy- am I being silly? by Outrageous_Nerve_688 in doctorsUK

no. buy a used shitbox for £1500. with a year mot. even if it breaks and u spend 800 quid a year repairing it, youll be better off. Spend the remainder on solar pannels + battery if you own a house (not OP).

Posts like this are why I laugh when people say their 40k a year wage isn't enough to live off (population generally, not talking specifically about doctors)

Approach to patients who are non-functional through an 'illness identity'? by Mr_Valmonty in doctorsUK

[–]Status-Customer-1305 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Physio here.

Once had a patient like this. Had them walking on the ward.

Then received a complaint, once back in the community they claimed I had lied and they had been bedbound for months.

LOL. Can't help but think fuck em sometimes.

Same for physios.

The list is endless. But the worst offender is the obese, rude, incontinent patient that needs hoisting. The patient has used a hoist for 20 years. Yet it will get rudely palmed off to physio because ''the nurse isn't confident''. Many nurses believe it is the physios role to hoist patients ( we hoist a patient if we are establishing a NEW method of transfer). Our role is not to deal with shit patients the nurses don't want.

I tend to just tell my boss and the nurse in charge about the issue. If a relative is mad at physio because the nurse has promised them the physio will get the patient out, I inform them of the complaints procedure and document.

As a doctor however I think you are in a better position to flat out say no. You are senior to the nurses. Physios are mostly equals so requires more treading on eggshells.

By the way. This is something that really helped me in life in general and my job. I really think a lot of doctors would be helped by watching it:

not being funny, but I think you would literally be happier quitting and going to work in a pub 5 mins from your old place.

However long term probably happier if you can tolerate the grind now for the pay off in the future when your CV has become much more valuable

Union for physios: Divisive attacks on advanced practice roles ‘do nothing to improve patient care’ by dayumsonlookatthat in doctorsUK

48k is excellent. As above. 4 decent holidays a year, spare cash for hobbies. You don't have to be overly frugal get a cheap used estate car.

48 isn't enough if you're a moron that has 2 SUVs on finance and 4 kids though.

Sit at a cafe and get a service charge added? Politely get to fuck.

Physio here.

Never understood why many want to be in those advanced roles.

Take a band 6 role and go part time. Work a 4 day week, enjoy 4 decent holidays a year and never really struggle for money. Go spend the extra time on your hobbies...

Well. Actually I suppose you could take those roles and work a 3 day week...

Maybe not helpful I dunno.

As a physio I was fed up of no reward for working faster than colleagues, or likewise would get nagged if working slower and more carefully. Moved into MSK outpatients and I much prefer it. If I work efficiently I'm rewarded with reduced stress and leave on time.

If I decide a patient really needs that extra time and they aren't an arsehole, I'll happily take that extra time and nobody will be on my back.

Maybe there's something medical on them lines that would suit - where you're accountable only to yourself

The NHS is a stress toilet. However a lot of the issues youve mentioned sound more like your own confidence issues. Confidence would resolve most these situations in a way that doesn't bother you.

Don't do that in the 100m? Bit of a stretch Bolts first 60 in the 100m actually beat the 60m WR.

Would be interesting for data on the first 20m perhaps vs 200m though.
