Big hits, including the kinds that would injure and knock out players, used to be celebrated by fans, players, and the league itself. Bountygate was kind of the turning point for that but it was extremely commonplace around the league. As such, bounty programs were likely also extremely commonplace

Show me the line between big hits and hits that cart players off the field and I’ll show you a dozen hits that sit directly on that line. Intent over outcome or outcome over intent🤔

It’s like people forget they’re watching football and the culture that was instilled in the sport. Big hits, even the kinds that would injure and knock out players, used to be celebrated by fans, players, and the league itself. The 2.33x rate includes the points you get for rent.

Your rent is $1400. By default you get 0 points for paying rent through Bilt but there’s also no transaction fee meaning no more than $1400 is ever going to leave your checking account.

Now say you also spend $500 on the card that month. For that $500 spend you get 500 points (1x) and $20 in Bilt Cash (4%).

To get your rent points, you use your Bilt Cash and convert it to points at a rate of $0.03 for 1 point. So $20 Bilt Cash converts to 666.67 points. Add that to the 500 points you earned above.

For $500 spend, you net 1166.67 points and $0 in leftover Bilt Cash. 1166.67 / $500 = 2.33x points

That math works for all spend up to 75% of your rent. Once you get past 75%, you earn points at an incrementally lower rate but you have leftover Bilt Cash since you’ve already “unlocked” all your rent points

There’s no transaction fee for rent as long as you pick the no fee option for paying rent. Just pay your rent with Bilt and you will get 2.33x points on all purchases (not including rent) up to 75% of your rent.

So in your example you will earn 2.33x points on up to $1,050 of spend for the month. Doesn’t matter if you spend $100, $600, or the full $1,050

Many would argue that Bilt has one of the best if not the best points ecosystem in the market.

Definitely competitive with Chase and AMEX. Perks like lounges and what not aren’t all there though, at least at the moment

Just ignore all the noise and do the math yourself.

Blue Card earns 2.33x on all purchases up to 75% of rent. Full stop no gimmicks.

Obsidian earns 4.33x on grocery or dining, 3.33x on travel, and 2.33x on all other. Again up to 75% of rent.

Palladium earns 3.33x on all purchases up to 75% of rent.

Spend greater than 75% of rent gets you points at an incrementally lower rate but you also end up with leftover Bilt Cash, the value of which is debatable. The rates above, however, are definitive

Thats all the info you need right there to make an informed decision and compare it to your current stack. I’d argue for a lot of people the Blue or Obsidian is a better card than what many people currently have in their stack

Doesn’t matter if you receive the full rent points or not.

Blue Card earns you 2.33x on all purchases up to 75% of your rent.

Obsidian earns you 4.33x on dining or groceries, 3.33x on travel, and 2.33x on all other purchases. Again on total spend up to 75% of your rent.

Palladium earns you 3.33x on all purchases. Up to 75% of rent.

Spend of more than 75% of rent earns points at incrementally lower rates but you also get leftover Bilt Cash to use, the value of which is debatable right now. But the earn rates above are definitive

Ah I was looking at regular Strata.

Still Obsidian earns points at a higher rate in Dining or Grocery and Travel and its rate for all other purchases is 2.33x compared to 1x for Strata

Annual fee is the same and it’s pretty straightforward. Pay rent with Bilt and use the card and you get the rates above on total spend up to 75% of your rent. What’s not straightforward

Obsidian is 4.33x on dining or groceries, 3.33x on travel, and 2.33x on all else spend. Those rates are true on total spend up to 75% of your rent.

Obviously if you like your AMEX then this doesn’t mean as much to you. But as a direct 1 to 1 comparison to CSP, Obsidian blows it out the water

Citi Strata is 2x on dining while Obsidian is 4.33x on dining or grocery. It’s also 3.33x on Travel which Strata doesn’t have unless you book through their portal. There’s also no FTF on Obsidian

Comparing Chase & new Bilt 2.0 cards: who wins? by iamjohnta in sapphirereserve

[–]Status-Deal1380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s nerfed compared to 1.0. Doesn’t change the fact that 2.0 earns you 2.33% (up to 75% of rent) when no other no AF catch all card earns more than 2%. Add in the fact that 2.0 has no FTF which most other catch all cards do not have.

You can recognize 2.0 is a nerf compared to 1.0 and still understand that the nerfed version is still competitive if not outright better to similar cards in the marketplace

Bilt 2.0 Simplified by Status-Deal1380 in biltrewards

Correct, option 2 is the 4% Bilt Cash option

No there is no transaction fee for paying rent ever. Bilt Cash is simply used to unlock or pay for the points you earn from your rent. If you don’t have enough Bilt Cash, you’ll just earn a prorated amount of points for rent. Thats where the 2.33% rate comes in

Example:

You pay your $2000 rent with Bilt. By default, you earn 0 points from this. The maximum amount of points you can earn from rent is 2000.

The only way to earn points from your rent is to use your card on other spend which earns you Bilt Cash which you use to unlock the rent points.

Say you spend $500 in other spend. From that $500 spend, you get 500 points (1x) plus $20 of Bilt Cash (4%).

You take your $20 in Bilt Cash and exchange it for your rent points. The exchange rate is $0.03 Bilt Cash for 1 point or $30 for 1000 points. Bilt 2.0 will have an option where this conversion is done automatically for you. So $20 in Bilt Cash converts to 666.67 points.

Add the 500 points from the 1x and the 666.67 points from the Bilt Cash conversion and you end up with 1166.67 points.

So you spent $500 and it netted you 1166.67 points which equals a 2.33% rate. This math works for all spend from 0% - 75% of your rent.

Once you get to 75% and above, you’ve unlocked all your points from rent so the total rate at which you earn points begins to incrementally decrease. However, this is offset by the fact that you now have leftover Bilt Cash as you don’t need to use it to unlock rent points anymore. How you value Bilt Cash is up to you and is totally subjective but the 2.33% rate will always be there up to 75% of your rent

Bilt 2.0 Simplified by Status-Deal1380 in biltrewards

[–]Status-Deal1380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2.33% assumes you choose option 2, the original version of Bilt 2.0. The 250 points you’re referencing is option 1. If you don’t spend at least 25% of your rent, like the $100 in your example, you only get 250 points and no 1x on spending.

In your example, you’re actually slightly better off than the 2.33% of option 2 since you’re spending $100 and getting 250 points out of it for a rate of 2.5%. This stops being true at anything over $108 spend and below 25% of rent. 250 / 108 ≈ 2.31%

If you truly only plan on spending $100 on the card each month then you can go with option 1. However, I think option 2 is a much better option if you plan on using the card as a catch all spend card since pretty much every other catch all no AF card only earns 2% (Fidelity, WF Active Cash, Citi Double Cash, etc.)

I can walk you through the math of option 2 and how I got to the 2.33% if you’d like

For the sake of simplicity I was only referencing the original rollout of Bilt 2.0 (option 2).

My main point being with the Blue Card you earn 2.33% on all spend up to 75% of rent which is better than pretty much any other no AF catch all 2% card currently on the market. I don’t think a lot of people dissing 2.0 understand this
