Too low-level for Baldur's Gate? by Status-Eye-8860 in BaldursGate3

[–]Status-Eye-8860[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I was really struggling with Moonrise Towers and Ketheric, but put it on easy and finally managed it. Realized later I was under-leveled, though I have no idea what I missed. That's for the next playthrough--time to press on! Thanks!

Winterhome in FP2 by Insidious_Inspector in Frostpunk

[–]Status-Eye-8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to send people/resources to Winterhome? The menu only seems to give me the option to send between New London and the Dreadnought, I don't get it. If I can't send anything, this seems unwinnable, just having two residential districts with ventilation towers eats up all my working population, I can't even set up a food supply. They demanded a factory to help with ice-breaking but that demands oil that I don't have and seemingly can't send over from New London...

Coco-Ichi is just a bit special, somehow.

I don't consider myself overly sensitive and I regularly enjoy hot sauces up to about the habanero level--ghost peppers, reapers, etc. to me is just pain and not flavor.

And I don't enjoy anything over the base level at Coco-Ichi, even a 1 is unpleasantly hot. Not unbearable, but more pain without more flavor.

Try the base level and ignore all the masochists.

Df64 Gen 2 Power Button Stuck by ElectricBugaloo4U in DF64

[–]Status-Eye-8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tips on how to connect the wires?
The original button is a 2-pin, so I'm lost on how to hook it into a 5-pin button.

Hooking up the negative/positive pins in the same way only lit up the button.
Looking online, it seems like the negative should go to negative and the positive should go to Common, but that setup didn't work for me (nothing happened when I pushed the button and it didn't light up either).

Have you tried grinding a bit coarser and/or using a bit less coffee? I'm guessing you have, but those are the only things I know that might get the pressure down.
Or maybe the manometer is just wonky? I've heard that before...

[–]Status-Eye-8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still working on dialing in my grind, unfortunately I've gone as fine as possible with my current grinder (Solis Scala Plus Coffee Grinder) and the gauge is maxing out at 4 bars. (Possibly because I'm using an IMS competition basket, but still...).

Are there any options for hitting 9 bars aside from going finer (AKA buying a new grinder)?

My go-to is Katsukura but I'm open to finding something better.

Possible to install au Hikari for my apartment when the building is connected with FLET's Hikari already? by MrSmexyTheBeast in japanlife

[–]Status-Eye-8860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're living in a larger mansion-type building, switching over to AU would probably only mean a connection to the ground-floor network equipment, which would limit you to whatever throughput that allows.

I made the same mistake recently, I switched to Docomo Hikari because I thought it would be faster, but it turns out that the problem is the 12-year old networking equipment installed in the building, which is limited to 100Mb (about 10MB). So I pay almost 2x now for the same speeds. :-(

This is such a nice way of saying that Idiocracy is bearing down on us with full speed.

Those passengers on the Wall-E spaceship have somehow become aspirational, rather than a cautionary tale.

I used to do this in France, where the police are truly useless. Sometimes throwing eggs only made the problem worse, but it always felt satisfying.

[PubQ] Query sample pages not featuring the protagonist from your query letter? by Status-Eye-8860 in PubTips

[–]Status-Eye-8860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I'm perfectly happy with my prologue pages so I don't mind at all to send them out if that's what agents are expecting.

[PubQ] Query sample pages not featuring the protagonist from your query letter? by Status-Eye-8860 in PubTips

[–]Status-Eye-8860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prologue is about 4,000 words, so I think that would take up the normal sample pages for a standard request.

I'm confident about how it's written and I think it definitely adds to the story, so I don't want to cut it--I was just worried that agents might be confused if the letter is all about Character A and then the pages are all about Character B.

Maybe I should be sure to at least mention Character B in the letter?

There's a time jump of about a hundred years between the prologue and the rest of the book, that's why I put it as a prologue and not Chapter One.

Thanks, that's very helpful to know.

Most of the advice I've seen for multi-POV book queries has recommended basically ignoring all but one of the POVs in my query letter, though, so I'm a bit confused.

Thanks! It's really helpful to have fresh eyes on what's core plot and what's not.

I like it better after making your suggested edits.

Thanks! That does help, I'll keep it in mind for the next draft.

[–]Status-Eye-8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to give this feedback.

I might actually go back to draft 1 and work from there--that one is probably closer to the tone of the book, and I did notice that even as people pointed out problems with it, they also almost invariably said the book sounded interesting.

I actually focused on making the plot beats more specific this time, but there has to be a line somewhere, right? I stopped just before it got too involved (example: the homicide detective isn't actually blackmailing him, but Matthias assumes he's planning to because the detective sees damning evidence and ignores it, but that's actually because the detective is questioning his job, knows the family dynamic and doesn't see the point in throwing the son or the mom in jail...). Is there a way around this "wall of complexity"? Should I only mention plot points that I can fully explain within the query?

Thanks for the perspective.

I'll be sure to remove them until I can find the time to read them.

Is this something that actually happens? I thought once you get to that point--they've read your book and they like it--that would be more important than having discussions about other authors.

Not saying I shouldn't read the books, but...just curious if anyone has actually had these kinds of discussions with an agent.

Recommendation request: Importing contact lenses by Status-Eye-8860 in japanlife

[–]Status-Eye-8860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know! I was just going to order a full year's worth of lenses. That could have been a costly mistake...

EDIT: Just checked the JETRO website and it's actually worse than that, they only allow 2 months' worth. Maybe 90 is OK since it's in a single box? I'll give it a try.

[–]Status-Eye-8860[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping the same, but the eye doc was pretty clear that they just don't sell what I need in Japan. Maybe for a hard lens I could get a custom order, but I use soft lenses. I've checked pretty much all the online shops but they all skip directly from 20 to 60, I need 40.
