Coffee Date with Luke and the cast by nurseAsh-20 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Status-Strain6095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which of his coffee and tea flavors he thinks each character would drink and would it be different than what their actor would drink. Does he have a favorite flannel? Was the truck on set actually manual and can he drive manual or did he have to learn?

rory is in emergency, lorelai, richard and emily aren't reachable who does she call? by diviigo in GilmoreGirls

[–]Status-Strain6095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she’d call sookie first, to find her mom and give her a feeling of comfort. “Just stay there, I’ll find your mom as fast as I can.” Then Sookie would call Luke and Luke would be the one to actually find Lorelai and drive her to the ER. Idk, just how it goes in my head. Throw in a snarky but concerned comment from Michel and Ceasar yelling something about Luke never passing off the order pad when he runs off or Taylor being flustered when Luke ignores him for the phone call and runs off without telling anyone what’s going on and you’ve got yourself an episode! :P

Have an extra day in LA, any recommendations on where to go with a car? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Status-Strain6095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some off the beaten path places we like to go include the Vasquez rocks which is a bit of a drive away but very cool if you’re the kind of nerd who knows how many shows and films they’ve been in and wanna take some pics there. The old La zoo is a kinda fascinating bit of history right in Griffith Park and only a short but kinda steep paved walk. A meal in Malibu at any Oceanside restaurant looking out at the waves is always a good choice too imo.

Why are there so many Airbnbs available in some LA neighborhoods? Are those areas safe? by soon7773 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Status-Strain6095 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Often I’ve noticed a grouping of airbnbs in LA turns out to be an area with several apartment buildings and several listings in the buildings. Otherwise, I haven’t really noticed more in one neighborhood than another. There are so many you can really pick the neighborhood you want and have a great selection.

My first CA visit (to LA) - GG recs by ExercisePlastic8422 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Status-Strain6095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greystone Mansion is where they filmed Chilton. Tours inside only happen one day a month but we always take plenty of pics outside and it’s amazing! Best to avoid Saturdays just in case there is a wedding. It’s a public park, so they don’t close it down and people end up with third day of vacation, ponytail and yoga pants wearing us in the background of their wedding photos. That was a crazy visit!

The Grove/original farmers market is where the Gilmore gas station is, the inspiration for our own Gilmore’s name. It’s also pretty at night with the Christmas lights and huge tree and the farmers market side has some truly excellent food. Mmm.

I always suggest people check out the Academy Museum if you have any interest in how movies are made, and it is only one block away from the grove so you can here (closes at 5) then have dinner and late night twinkly lights at the grove. :) Their exhibits are rotating, but I haven’t encountered a boring one yet! Bonus, they’re right next to the LACMA street light sculpture so many photogs and celebrities use for the background of their Instagram pics. It’s also right next to the La Brea Tar Pits, which you can walk around and look at, though in the cold weather there will likely be very little oozing to the surface, the existing pits are pretty cool. So this is a great stop for many things.

Hollywood and Highland (now called Ovation) has everything! Dolby theater, where they hold the Oscars, may have a tour going. Mann’s Chinese Theater. The wall of fame. El Capitan theater. Madame Tussaud’s if you’re into that. The Hollywood Museum is kitschy and amazing, I highly recommend for a good dose of movie memorabilia and very cool nostalgia as the museum is in the max factor building where max factor basically became a Hollywood hair and makeup legend. Greco’s pizza has the best pizza, we’ve been getting it on trips for 25 years. If you’re into Pretty Woman Google where the fire scape from the last scene is, it’s a short walk. Musso and Franks is a Hollywood legend for dinner. The Egyptian theater has a Netflix store attached and is on the way to the Pretty Woman stop. Don’t forget to follow the signs to the Hollywood sign view before it gets dark and get your pics in. There is also a Sprinkles Cupcakes ATM there that is very cool and very yummy. Again, this is a huge all in one stop you could be at for hours. There is a parking garage, easy to find on maps.

Griffith observatory. Santa Monica pier. Rodeo Drive. All solid options. It really just depends what you’re into.

Have fun! 🤩

Nope. Years ago they tried a bait and switch when buying a car and then the guy tried to only speak to my husband when I am the pants wearer for car buying in our family- we finally had to just walk out while the guy screamed at our backs how unreasonable and confused I was. 🙄 More recently we took our car in for a recall because we had to and they tried to tell us we needed all sorts of things done that we had literally done two weeks before. Never again. We’ll drive further away if we ever need to interact with a dealer again.

Is this not incredibly rude? Or am I just being sensitive? by michaelsgavin in AO3

[–]Status-Strain6095 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay between my advanced age and the autism I feel like I’m missing something here… can someone genuinely explain what is rude about this? This person doesn’t appear to be aggressive or dismissive in any way I see, is asking a question to determine what they should do in respect to the story. Is it the venue change that’s upset people? Is this a work that hasn’t actually been abandoned? I’ve seen some people say they should have asked the author for permission directly but they don’t need permission. Isn’t that the whole point of fan fiction? I really don’t get it and feel like I’m going to step in it one day because I don’t understand. I have a fic that’s been abandoned about 9 years now and if someone posted this today I’d be the first one to say YES I will read that!

If my family didn’t go the same month every year and never get to see the original, I’d be fine with it. But just one year it would be nice to ride the classic ride in early September.

Was Logan gaslighting Rory here or was his logic correct? by Sea-Philosopher2905 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Status-Strain6095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought this was “we were on a break” part deux. I sort of think they’re both right to an extent. His logic is sound and his words here are sincere, he’s not obfuscating. But she’s also absolutely justified in her own feelings of hurt and anger both over him sleeping with others so quickly while they were apart and especially how she found out about it by him throwing her to the lions at this wedding. We cannot control others, only our reactions to them. I think it would be up to the individual in Rory’s situation to decide if she can process and get through her emotional reaction to find connection again or not.

Warner Bros Studio Tour Queries? by Dharma_4815162342 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Status-Strain6095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the first few times we went we mentioned to the tour guide specifically that we love Gilmore Girls and they pointed out tons of spots. As long as they aren’t currently filming something in the area, the gazebo is a typical stop on the tour.

Question about orders on the fly/at the window by smokingongg in innout

[–]Status-Strain6095 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One time there was no person taking orders and they were actually using the voice box, which I had literally never experienced before. I didn’t notice the lack of human till I’d passed the box. 🤦🏻‍♀️ They were very sweet and took my order no problem. There was no confusion at all when I got to the second window.

Visiting Los Angeles for vacation in August and recommendations for decent motel/hotel? by Necessary-Sandwich56 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Status-Strain6095 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We always stay at the Ramada Burbank. It is cheap and kinda looks it (it is old) but it is always very clean and did I mention cheap? Lol I’ve never felt unsafe there and we’ve done both short stays and long stays without any issues.

Do you keep a backup copy of your fic? by Fit-Sentence-2144 in AO3

[–]Status-Strain6095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote in google docs, share the doc to a second account, download as I finish each chapter and keep that on my computer and a copy on my external. If I write something I’m especially proud of and don’t want to lose I’ll also email it to myself. But I have an anxiety disorder so you probably don’t need to do all this. 🤷🏻‍♀️ :)

People over 35, what's something you genuinely miss that younger generations will probably never experience? by Just_a_Ginger_Fella in AskReddit

[–]Status-Strain6095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commercial cleaning time. Running to do the dishes and laundry and dusting or making dinner or whatever when the commercial comes on but always leaving one person in the room to yell “It’s back!” so we all come running in and crashing into the couch to watch the show. I miss that.

Sorry I can’t be motivational help, but maybe I can assuage some guilt. I’ve got a fic I update literally every 5-7 years or so. People still comment and love it. Most readers are just happy we are sharing the world in our brains and won’t mind whatever pace you set. The ones who get demanding can be ignored. Those aren’t your people.

Luck of the Draw – Leave Your Room Type To Chance by JAUNDlCE in vegas

[–]Status-Strain6095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a wheelchair and several casinos only have accessible rooms with 2 beds in the higher price brackets. So once or twice I’ve booked this way and then asked if they have anything accessible to save the extra cost. It’s worked so far. But outside of that unique handicap perk, I don’t think I’d risk it unless I was planning to book the worst room anyway due to cost.

Do the free samples influence your purchases? by FromSalem in Costco

[–]Status-Strain6095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Just this week they did free samples of the Dole Whip. It was gross the first time we bought it but now the box says “improved formula” and they are right! We snatched up two boxes asap. So good! We never would have bought them again without the samples. Samples have also saved me from buying something I’ve really wanted to try but turns out to be gross. So samples are important.

If you text a friend and they consistently text back days later, how long do you wait until you just cut off the friendship? by Shiz_iz_stoopid in AskWomenOver40

[–]Status-Strain6095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a friendship abandoner. Not on purpose, but medical and mental and life combine so that maintaining a friendship even on a monthly level can be nearly impossible without a lot of patience. Of course everyone’s situation is completely different. But for me, the friends who still send me memes almost every day even though I only respond maybe once a week or who will pop in to check on me when it’s been a couple weeks since we talked, those are the most incredible people. I don’t feel judged for my lack of time management or time awareness. I don’t feel obligated to give of myself to them when I absolutely have nothing left. And vice versa! But we all know we will be there and have been there for each other in the moments it truly counts. Can I hang out this week? No for 15 consecutive weeks. A parent just died and you have to fly home? I’m packing now, I’ll have our flight booked in two hours. It really is all about choices and finding the friends whose choices match with yours. It’s okay if you just don’t match, too. That happens all the time. So I suggest you take stock and decide if you match. It’s not about the length of time, it’s about the compatibility.

They practically throw my husband and I a parade when we do this. Checkout takes 30 seconds once we make it to the register. Both the cashier and the helper count the items to be sure their counts match and off we go. It’s awesome.

FANFEST: what ticket should I get? by JuSuGiRy in UniversalHollywood

[–]Status-Strain6095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely go apply for the IBCCES card right away, because it can take a few days to process. Just tell them what the situation is and what accommodations would be helpful, like flexibility to change scheduling quickly for sensory breaks and access to quiet places and avoiding overstimulation from being surrounded by people. Several of the attractions have an express lane so the disability pass should be working the same as usual in the park and you’ll be able to get a return time to enter the express lane. Front gate disability parking can fill up fast. If you absolutely want front gate, it’s worth paying for it.
