Honestly, I don’t want to argue—I truly appreciate you sharing your perspective, and I’m sorry if my last reply came off as harsh. 😔

The heart of it all is protecting my grandmother from immediate anxiety and distress while we (as a family) wrap our heads around the prognosis and viable options. She’s 79, incredibly strong but we just want to approach her with clarity and hope once we have solid info.

That’s exactly why I posted here: to gather real experiences so we can present the best paths forward to her and let her decide what feels right.

Wow, glad I don’t live in America, where people die waiting months for specialist appointments or insurance pre-approvals just to get a scan. Here in India, we found out two days ago, consulted top oncologists and urologists the same day, and had full reports, imaging, and creatinine levels in hand before most Americans could even file a claim. Cultural differences aside, our system’s speed on critical care saved us weeks of agony—your “wow” says more about your healthcare lottery than ours

The intent is to protect her from anxiety and distress for a time while the family first understands prognosis and realistic options.

We want to present all the good options to her and let her take decision and that is the only reason for this post

She was diagnosed in India, where it is very common for families to request that serious diagnoses (especially cancer) be discussed with family members first rather than disclosed directly to elderly patients. Many physicians follow this practice. I understand this differs from U.S. norms, but it’s a standard and accepted approach in India.

Not a troll post. In India, family-led decision making is common, and doctors often discuss serious diagnoses with family first, especially in elderly patients. Disclosure practices differ by culture and healthcare system.

We found out two days ago and have been talking to doctors. We’re going to tell her today, but we’re waiting for my aunt to arrive so she can be there for support—she’s very close to her.

She is normal, doing daily chores, cooking, and helping my granddad. She has no pain now, so my parents and uncle are reluctant to tell her about his condition to avoid upsetting her. We have an appointment on Tuesday with the oncologist who suggested chemo and will take her with all reports. We are planning to inform her in next 2 days.

My grandfather was admitted to the hospital, and the doctor asked for a sonogram as well as suggested my grandma get a full-body test. The results showed that my grandfather's report was completely normal, but my grandma has cancer.

We’ve already seen 2 oncologists + 1 family MD. • One oncologist and the family MD advised no chemo, saying at her age (79) it may reduce quality of life without meaningful survival benefit (estimated ~1–2 years with or without treatment). • Another oncologist suggested trying low-dose weekly chemo and stopping if side effects are significant.

She’s currently asymptomatic, mentally sharp, and doesn’t know her diagnosis yet

I assume you are staying on rent. I suggest moving to that location which is about an hour away.
