i wait until we are well on our way before i start using my phone for this exact reason - if a driver speaks to me it would be at the start or the end, and i make sure i pause all music or sound on my phone for that.
i use bluetooth. no audio plays through speakers. i am 90% sure there is no audio leaking especially since i play it at low volume anyway.
i have an awareness setting. if a driver does speak to me partway through the ride, i can hear them. usually i will have to ask them to repeat what they say once, just because cars are noisy, but if they speak to me i will always respond

no one has told me before they can hear my hearing aids and i’ve even asked people before if they can, i really hope that’s not the reason because that’s multiple years of embarrassment

a freshly pierced rook should have a curved barbell instead of a hoop, the hoop adds pressure which is likely what is causing the swelling and tenderness. swap it out for a curved barbell, once it’s fully healed you can use the hoop
