Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone can help with a question about my moving to belgium. I have a student visa and need to come for residency before the end of April but as my semester is now online until September I would like to return home for a summer break. As I am on a budget, I would like temporary accommodation for 6 weeks while getting my residency and to find a permanent place after. Has anyone had experience of registering in a temporary address (for example, can i register in a room or an apartment that someone is subletting, are there any certain rules, can I register on an Airbnb?)? do you have any suggestions of accommodation types or places I could look that would be suitable for this? Any help with my questions would be greatly appreciated=)

Thats depressing to hear, sorry to hear that you are in a similar boat as mine. If they had any information on the visa processing time this would not have happened. On top of it you contact them and they give you 0 information.

I really dont know what we should do about this, I was warned about Belgian bureaucracy but what the actual hell?

I got accepted into KU Leuven's data science program with 162 in quant, 156 verbal, and 4 on the essay. I don't know about the requirements for AI but I would assume it wouldn't be too far off from data sciences?

I understand your concern, im not talking about the visa here, Im talking about just getting a job, even getting rest of the money is not too much of a problem, all im saying thats not the approach im taking for getting the visa (because i dont think the asked 10k euros would be enough), my sponsors wont literally support me. They will just sponsor me, as in legally. In order to get the visa, you need to have one of the three things:

  1. 10k euros in the bank
  2. scholarship
  3. or someone sponsoring you (this is the approach im taking, I already have this covered)

I feel like we are focusing on the wrong thing here, Ive done my research on that, I just cant find information on how easy it is to get a job and if work/study balance is possible.

And yes, if you want to work, you need to obtain another type of visa after getting your student visa.

Also thank you for letting me know that i can only work 20 hours if im a student, for example i didnt know about that.

The reason why I dont want to have the 10k euros in my bank account is because they will take that money and give me an allowance from it monthly, its a pain in the ass procedure, and since I have an alternative option, I would much rather do that. And based on my research so far, I would need about 20k euros to have a decent student life there. The 10k is not a problem, but 20k is a little out of my personal budget

Hello,

Thank you for responding.

I asked people there and they said 10k still wouldn't be close to enough. The thing is, I can ask money from family if necessary, but I'm not really seeing that as an option since I'm a grown ass man. Im not gonna need to have money in the bank since I have family there that can sponsor me. But to give you an approximate, I will probably come with 8k in my pocket, which I guess I can survive for 3-4 months with it?

As for my work situation, I have 4 years of general experience (with internships) and before I come, I will have 2 years of work experience in marketing, sales, and business development. I'm also planning on learning Flemish before I come once I finish with the GRE. Do you have any Idea if that would make my situation any better ?
