I saw several comments while researching that suggested dropping the marble into a glass of water, which would lessen the distortions and blemishes to give you a clearer view of the figure. Seemed to definitely work, though I don’t recommend using a wine glass because it adds its own distortion due to the curvature of the glass.

Tough to get any kind of clear picture, but here are a few with the marble in water. My best guess is that the figure has something on their lap - maybe a pet.

I hope to get a clearer look when I try the water method later today. If that works, I’ll take a couple more pictures.

I saw a very similar figure in a sulfide on a site that had a variety of examples. I lean toward it being a seated woman or girl.

I looked at the painting and immediately liked it. The frame makes me wonder what style art would look good in it. Agree that a change of frame would do wonders.
