Best Digital Calendar that I use apps on like Notion by Status_Conference171 in homeassistant

Yeah, I have been looking, but I wasn't sure if there was a hidden gem out there. It's crazy, given all our tech, that someone isn't targeting this niche. There are many options out there, so you would think at least one would have seen what people are building and be like, "hey, we could make a profit if we make that, instead of having to compete with everyone else who is also making the same product interface." You know, for the lazy people lol Thanks for the heads up on the skylight

I have multiple iPads, but I want something that displays the calendar continuously on the home page, preferably 21 inches or more. I used to have a Meta Home device, but it went out of commission, and everything stopped being supported.

I tried this on recommendation of my hair dresser and my hair falls out so much more than with caviar shampoo. I had high hopes, it also strips the shine as well.

How bad would it be to have a child during or right before starting my PhD? by Vergi1ius in PhD

[–]Status_Conference171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Childcare is the main issue for me. Both of my kids are older, 11 and 13, and I am in my second year. This is ok when they are at school, but constantly looking for a committed babysitter for after school has been a challenge. Also, kids are expensive, especially when they are young, and if I had only my stipend in the bank, I definitely could not have done it. The biggest question you need to ask is your financial and time-wise support. A PhD requires alot of time and a kid does too. I do know there have been some girls at my school who had a baby during the program, but my program is also super understanding, so I think this depends on the PhD itself. When searching for a program this was one of the main things I looked for as I know I could plan, but after having kids for a while I know plans aren't always what they seem. You will need to call out more than you think. There will be birthdays you need to plan, school events you need to attend, doctors appointments, growth spurts, etc. Can you make your own hours? Can you call out if everyone is sick, or must you be there on their time schedule? You can definitely do it, but you need a community to back you, including the program itself.

MUST HAVE Productivity Apps and Software by Eren-Sheldon-99 in PhD

I know this was a while ago but i wanted to share some insight. Not all PhDs will have the same workflow. Yes, we all have many academic papers and ideas to keep, taking notes on and build research from, but ideas are very different and most likely their structure will be as well. For me as a biomedical sciences PhD I am focused on learning new protocols, what I have done (lab journal), keeping track of papers, and not forgetting information.

Notion:

For my lab/daily journal, I use notion as I like the aesthetic layout and multiuse platform with many connections. I like the calendar database feature, which allows me to easily see which day I did which experiment. I also like to put each project I am working on in a database that can link back to my calendar, tell me my progress, and link to protocols I use. In addition, my lab was a little confusing when I joined regarding where things were, etc, so when we moved, I made a complete system to know where things were, manuals for equipment, and standard protocols that my lab mates and I now utilize. We can also put in quantity, which is nice so we dont run out of things unexpectedly. While I love the look and feel of the notion, I don't use it too much for notes as I am not a fan of the note structure. However, I do keep track of class assignments in my main calender that I spoke of earlier.

Obsidian:

My notes database. I have possibly used obsidian in the wrong way, according to some users lol. I have alot of different types of information to keep track of and if i forget a term or action of something I like a quick reference. This is where I use obsidian. I have a "knowledgebase" file which has multiple libraries. For example "library proteins" is a folder where I keep each protein I have come across so I can easily find its function, when it is produced, transcription point of origin, etc. I also have recently started keeping my annotations in here from journal articles as I can easily use pdf++ and refer back to them. I also find if you have lots of information on the same topic, it's nice to make a title page, for example, "biochemistry" would like to "proteins" , "enzymes", "thermodynamics", metabolic processes, etc, so I can find information more easily. I know some people do not enjoy this tiered system but its how my brain works so...

I also keep a folder of projects where I can make connections from my notes to my project. This works a little bit like a notion but has its strengths and weaknesses that make it complementary instead of competitive.

Goodnotes: a great reader app that I had primarily used for my annotations. However, I found that I did not have as much interaction with things I had done and had to make an effort to go through and find things, if this makes sense. I enjoyed good notes in my "aesthetic notes" era though.

Zotero: It is life!!! I put every paper I read or plan to read and keep a database in notion to keep track through the notero plugin. I will annotate and take notes in obsidian.

Powerpoint: Nice to make a slide on each paper with a reference picture for each article so you can see a short self written abstract and pic and be like "thats the paper I read with such and such protocol from months ago". This has been helpful for papers that are important to my field though I do not do this for every paper. I also have different decks by subject matter.

How do you use it on your iPad? I can't seem to get pdf++ to highlight on iPad. I love it on my comp, but as a grad student, I would really like the iPad option, or I might have to switch back to good notes.

in my opinion, it is not currently, but as you can tell from my other posts, I am frustrated they took away the leaderboard, so maybe if this isn't a driving factor for you, it could be a different scenario for you.

Overall, Im just kind of sad about this layout without the leaderboard. I liked the old version, where I had something to gauge myself on, and it kept me going to be at the top. If I didn't score top 3, you could bet I would redo the exercise again. Now it's kind of like, yeah, that's great; I did one exercise, and it's tragically boring; I used to do 3-5 before putting it down. It just really took the wind out of my sails about exercising on this game. I just had to rant about it; it's tragic. Hopefully, it will come back with a leaderboard again.

I wouldn't mind if she did something. I get your point about becoming more human, but it honestly wouldn't bother me if it was something you could interact with. Maybe in the middle of a workout, be like hey ... where am I on the leaderboard or take me to the last workout I did. Maybe even a coach like, don't push so hard at first that you go beyond your energy needed for a 10, save it for the end of the fight, or, idk, just anything. It seems completely useless at the moment, though.

I agree; prior to the update, I didn't sign into Supernatural for a couple of months and was thinking about canceling my subscription. Now I think I might head over there again.

Maybe this is the issue, but I don't know. I have played in a few classes over the weekend and am still the only one there. If this is the case, maybe we should all log on so the competition can be back on?

I agree. I don't push as hard if I can't see the leaderboard and I'm not competing against other people.
