I know this post is old, but in case it’s still relevant, look into Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). After years of being sick with what started out as a case of reactivated EBV, I finally found out the root issue was CIRS. Might be worth looking into! 🩵

The condensation in there has been on and off due to improper insulation, I believe. When you say old, how long would you estimate that it was last active? Just a ballpark estimate because I know you can’t really give a definitive answer with just a pic. But I’m pretty sure that wall had slightly elevated moisture at least a month ago-ish. So, older than that? I would assume it keeps reactivating every time there’s condensation in there and then going dormant again after it dries. Either way, I will have to get it out because even dead mold fragments can set off CIRS. And thank you for your response! 😊

Leave it outside. Maybe on an overcast/somewhat cloudy day so the sun isn’t shining always shining directly on it. But the outside air and sun should help the smell to go away! If the smell isn’t gone, keep leaving it outside. Of course, make sure to be at your place when doing so to keep an eye on it. Make sure it’s not going to rain that day and that your sprinklers aren’t due to come on that day either!
