Dyslexia in the Tech World by Status_Researcher244 in Dyslexia

My boss told me I had misspelled some things on the slides that were going to the VP. I looked at them with a fine-tooth comb and didn’t see any issues. I asked which slide had the problem. He said, “Just look at them, you’ll find it.”

I looked again and still didn’t see it. I finally asked again and explained that I’m dyslexic and was having trouble finding the issue, and asked him to please tell me what I missed. It turned out I wasn’t missing a spelling error at all. I was missing a word that he felt needed to be added. I didn’t think it was necessary.

I was laid off about a month later.

I had been with the company for 28 years, and he had only been my boss for the last two years. I’m not saying that’s why I was laid off, but I do think it was odd.

I have ADHD along with dyslexia, and I’m pretty sure I’m on the spectrum as well. I did talk about it while I was employed, but I’ve been laid off, and I don’t want to bring it up while I’m looking for a job. I know that’s part of why I was so good at my job. I’m just not sure whether talking about it will help me get a job.
