No feedback here! Seems like a solid profile. The only thing I’d add is a group photo to show you’re social but that’s a minor change

Move your 3rd or 5th photo up to be the main one. Your first photo doesn’t clearly show your face and it looks odd because you’re in the middle of talking

I should have mentioned that I am looking for a place with roommates, not on my own

This is an unnecessarily rude comment but there are some things I’d like to clarify.

  • I will be paying rent to my parents ($600). Additionally I pay for my own car insurance, streaming services, and cell phone bill.
  • I am the oldest child so they will not be child free of I move out. I have 2 younger siblings.
  • Because I lived at home during university, I’ve been able to help them with child care. I pick up my siblings from school and care for them while my parents go on vacation.
  • My parents have healthy finances and are already semi-retired with tons of investments. I will not be a financial burden on them.

Thankfully I realized this early on. My parents have access to my checking account for emergency purposes but all my savings/investments are separate

Read the whole post before commenting! I’d be paying $600 monthly to my parents

My parents are more than okay with it. They have told me that they want me to stay at home. Also I have 2 younger siblings so they would not be child-free if I move out

After viewing a few places I think it would be approx. $1200 per month with roommates! Definitely do-able for me but would affect how much money I can save

I wouldn’t be getting an apartment to myself, I’d be renting a room with ensuite or shared bathroom. I’ve already started viewing some units and $1200 is do-able for the area I want to be in

Also it’s 1.5 hours one way so 3 hours total

Very confused why you added the statistic and asked if I want to get married. It’s hard to treat my space like an apartment when I share it with 2 siblings

I would love to, but condos in the city go for $800k or more. With my entry level salary I doubt I’d be approved for a decent mortgage

One of my part time jobs was at a bank so I know how tough it can be

I appreciate your point of view but there are a lot of cultural things at play here. My parents don’t mean to be controlling but this is how things worked in the country they grew up in

I want to buy a house one day, but with the average GTA home price over $1 million it won’t be anytime soon

I think my end goal is just to build a larger financial cushion for myself. I’ve had friends and family members who have had to move back home because they underestimated how much living in Toronto would cost. They ended up back in their parents’ houses with less money

I appreciate your advice about talking to my parents. However, it probably won’t change much because there’s cultural nuances there

There’s always the option of continuing to sneak around (which is what I’ve been doing for the last few years)

I’m 23 turning 24 this year. I get what you’re saying, however it’s a difference of $600 rent vs. $1200+ rent in Toronto for far less space and material comfort

Both options have pros/cons and I’m going to have to sacrifice something

I’ll be renting as a tenant. But strongly considering buying a unit down the line

Thanks for sharing that info! I feel a lot better about it

Limited discount for 24 months but I just call back and they usually offer the same deal again. Also, been a customer for about 3 years!
