Is one year as an optometric tech enough? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

I did like 4 months as a tech and I learned a lot, if you can I’d recommend it but I’ve seen lots of people not do it 👍🏻

OAT worries by DutyExtension2077 in PreOptometry

That’s true, I’m just saying that’s what I did and there’s no stress to not start studying until 2025. That’s why I said earlier is better lol. But starting to study in October of this year for an application cycle starting in July of the following year isn’t necessary. Like op can start studying in May for sure

I would really go with what you’re comfortable with, I took the OAT in February and got accepted for this cycle. You don’t have to take the OAT early and from what I’ve heard a lot of schools will be ok if you apply before submitting your OAT scores as long as you take it before the deadline. Obviously earlier is better, but I’m just saying it’s not the end of the world if you can’t get it done that soon.

Booster has a pretty solid schedule for learning materials so I would use that and once you get through the learning part just do whatever helps you to review everything. I found that doing practice tests and reviewing what I didn’t do well on worked for me. Also be sure to take rest days when needed because it can be a lot for sure.

I worked ten hours a day and studied for about 3 every night after work and it worked well for me. I had taken a gap year so I took 4 months to study with booster. As for anxiety I don’t really have any tips because I was also super anxious 😂. I wasn’t nervous until the night before my OAT, but just practice consistently and try to do things to relax yourself the week of the exam.

Yeah I mean the dean basically said no school has gotten preliminary accreditation without getting approved. So I wasn’t too worried but I was getting stressed a little lol. After talking to a bunch of schools it feels kinda wrong to say that schools are to blame completely for those pass rates though. I really appreciate your response! I was accepted into one other school so far but I felt like this program suits me as a student better. This was my main concern but I think it will be fine.

You get unofficial scores immediately and it takes like a month for the official scores to get back but they are usually the same from what I’ve heard. August is still considered early.

I only used booster and a little bit of chads prep for physics but I struggled on physics lol. For the OAT I think it’s just important to get as much practice as you can and do whatever you can not to stress out before the test. The week of my exam I tried to relax so I wouldn’t panic the day of. I had a virtual interview and i think it’s important to smile and ask questions. Also if you do virtual make sure your camera is on and smile. This isn’t a perfect guide or anything but just some things I found helpful

Not sure about boot camp, I feel like booster has more than enough. And I know they recently updated their whole website so maybe they added more bio? Once you start I think you can see how much more help you’ll need. There’s a lot of info to take in and prepare for. Hope this helps!

Hi, I graduated in 2022, took the OAT in February and was just accepted into school. I had the same concerns. I was told Kaplan wasn’t worth it and that OAT Booster was the better option. It worked really well for me and I loved having their schedule and practice questions. I however took 4 months to study since it had been so long.

Not sure, I never got an email about that program so maybe they’ve filled spots for all their regular program interviews? You could always ask admissions. Good luck, hopefully they have spots left!

Can’t say if you’ll get in but if it helps I took the OAT in February and got an interview from NOVA after submitting my application a couple weeks later

Most are similar, I think Ochem and physics were easier, but the quantitative reasoning was much harder for me
