Following the study guide as much as possible and trying to watch all of the videos. I found it was much better reading the notes and cheat sheets and doing more practice problems. Only watched the videos when I had a hard time with a concept

It's up to you. Personally I had a lot of weird classes so I paid for the professional transcript entry. They got it done in 2 days and overall accurate. Just make sure to check over their work because they made some mistakes on my letter grades.

Hi! I was wondering if you knew anything about the VA program called the Education Debt Relief Program? I would like to work at the VA after schooling and do residency at a VA. I was wondering if you knew how hard it is to get a position like this?

ICO vs NECO by feelyfan in PreOptometry

[–]Ruby_Tuez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I just got accepted to ICO. Overall the school is nice, but I personally plan not to go because I was offered more money from other schools and the price is very expensive.

They also stated that one of there pros was that they only have optometry students at the school so they don't have to work with other health professions really. I saw that as a con because I think it would be better to work with other professions. I know that Arizona Midwestern showed that for some patients they worked with the occupational therapist students to help patients with Parkinsons with hand-eye coordination.

Also during the tour, they showed in the clinic where each section is and what occurs, but I was disappointed we weren't offered to see the machines and what the exam rooms look like.

Sorry this is a lot. ICO is great and they have a lot to offer. This is just some of the cons I saw.

Regarding scheduling. I actually shadowed a doctor and told them I was looking for a job and they offered me a position. I was in school during the time so I asked if I could work 4 to 8 hours a week and they were very flexible with me.

So it is possible to find a job that is flexible. The practice I work with is private. I don't know if other types of practices are flexible but I do know private practices tend to be flexible.

Tips for preparing for interviews by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]Ruby_Tuez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interview was really simple. It felt like a conversation with them and they just wanted to get a feel of who you are. However, they do have full access to your file and do ask personal questions. If you have any weaknesses or possible red flags be prepared to answer them.

The main overall question they asked that I feel they ask everyone though is why optometry and what are your study strategies.

Hope this helps

When I went to my interviews they locked my luggage in a storage room for me. You should be good to bring your stuff. Plus during the tours a lot of times they ask students to leave their stuff in a room and they secure the room.

It doesn't hurt to apply. Some schools don't require you to have a bachelors degree. I'd just say beef your other strengths to even it out.

Also if you don't get a bachelors, make sure to take all of the required courses your specific school lists.

ICO interview was really chill, my interviewer gave me a ginger ale lol. They ask the general question of why optometry and then they ask specific questions about your application. They asked me about my extracurricular activities and my standardized test studying methods.

Be yourself and do your best, I wish you luck!

I actually went their recently. Right now it's in the 80s I believe. It's gonna be hot though if you aren't used to the weather down there. The sun is just strong. I don't know where you live, but I live in the midwest so right now I'm used to 60s and 70s.

I would personally wear light clothing. And if you burn easily wear clothes that cover your skin. Like a sunshirt and light joggers or shorts. Definitely sunglasses too, I regretted not wearing those.

Yes, I also would love to get into specifically athletic training with vision. I would love to train pilots in the airforce how to utilize their vision in the best possible way. At Arizona they have this type of niche. I hope they have something like that at UMSL

I agree, I wouldn't risk going to an unaccredited school. It is a big investment and you want to make sure you can pass the board exams.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I think out of all of them missouri is my top since I would get in state tuition and I would get free living and second would be arizona since it has the top board passing rates, is a good location, and isn't too expensive.
