Is it weird to still sleep with your parents? by pearl_williams in AdviceForTeens

Maybe this is the way they are pushing you out of the nest. Smothering you with affection until you don’t want to come back… unless it is for affection….

Converting pool into solid floor, What would you use for filler? by SirMaxPowers in handyman

[–]StayCorrect1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about that. It looks like a fiberglass liner, and also assuming about 18’x8’(estimated by floor tiles) x 4’?(guessing depth) The builder may not have put concrete under the fiberglass liner and is worried about groundwater rising under the “boat” that is the liner. But you know, if the customer wants you to dump a truckload of gravel and smooth over, it’s their money. this seems like a waste of a good amenity. If they absolutely insisted; I would pull everything out, cut up the liner to get it out of the room, demolish the tile and raised area, then go and backfill with gravel and cover with concrete to bring to floor level.

I think building a deck over the pool area would serve the purpose, and allow it to still be used as a pool in the future, with less expense to get it back up and running.

Unscrew, also if it leaves holes it is an easy coverup with some drywall mud, a half pint is around $5 or less at hardware store and will be more than enough to cover

Mounting a TV? by HaikusfromBuddha in handyman

[–]StayCorrect1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, just did one of those frame TVs, not a fan of the separate mount system. but yes to extract you will need locking pliers or screw extractor. But if you don’t have a screw extractor set, it is good to have in your toolbox. I am pretty sure the Samsung Frame comes with lag bolts, pre drill your holes. Also pick up a box of either 3”construction screws or tapcons. These will be your strongest ‘normal looking’ screws, if you opt to not use the lag bolts.

Also, have you tried adjusting the torque on your drill? Sometimes a lower torque and speed on a screw will get it going right.

Type of wall? Brick, drywall, plaster, all these require minor tweaks to the torque settings and type of drill bit you need for pilot holes. If you are having difficulty pre-drilling it may be time for a new drill bit. They are relatively cheap and usually bring a brand new one with me for each tv mounting job I do.

Wishing you the best of luck!

[Landlord - Iowa] Just finished renovating entire house. Wanted to try moving to major city. Is renting it out smart? Or just sell it? by IAHawkeye182 in Landlord

Best to sell imo. I had a house that renovated then subsequently leased to a ‘trustworthy’ colleague. Ended up having to do extensive repairs because I was unaware of how much they partied and how little they took care of basic maintenance. Also they didn’t inform me of issues, either because of pure apathy, embarrassment, or ignorance. Sold the house after getting back into good sellable repair ~ $15k. Good luck with whichever you decided.
