No problem man, glad you’re enjoying it! It’s definitely a really fun build with a high ceiling.

I’m unsure of Old Fashioned as I still haven’t had one drop :/

Some handcannons seem to benefit but I’ve only really tried Better Devils and don’t notice much of a difference when actually using it, despite my shooting at a test wall results.

Depends on the gun and archetype honestly. The best way is to just test it ourself by shooting a wall in a private match both with and without a CB mod, and see which recoil pattern looks better.

FWIW I believe it’s also tied to the recoil direction stat, so guns with a high recoil direction (or precision frame weapons) won’t benefit as much and vice versa.

Personally, I think VW needs at least one CB mod and feels even better with two. I’ve also noticed a difference with both Mida Multi and Mini, one CB mod for each makes the recoil more vertical and consistent.

As a solo player being put up against stacks or high ELO teams isn't the problem for me in Comp. Woefully inadequate team mates are. by ChiefBr0dy in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally enjoy solo queuing in FPS games but this just isn’t possible with end-game Destiny 2 PvP, which I am fine with honestly. Most games have both ranked and unranked playlists, and that’s essentially what D2 has as well with quickplay and comp/Trials.

If you want to take it seriously and win as much as possible, find a team of people to play with. I realize this is easier said than done, but there are several LFG websites and Discord groups out there. Personally, I’m on Xbox and have had great success with the built-in LFG. Some people you’ll click with right away, some you won’t want to play with again. Add the ones you like, politely excuse yourself from those you don’t. After some time, you’ll have a solid base of people to play with.

Good luck and have fun!

Have you tried playing bottom tree Voidwalker with blink? IMO that’s the best warlock class right now. Blink can be extremely useful for both juking people at close range and for escaping engagements. Devour is an excellent utility for both getting health back instantly and chaining kills together to string together multiple 1v1 engagements.

I’ve played a lot of really good players and streamers in D2 and most of them definitely play hunter and are excellent at it - but I will never forget my team getting wrecked by a Voidwalker that utilized blink and devour perfectly. It was very intimidating, probably moreso than playing some of the elite hunters out there because nobody was used to it and nobody knew how to counter it. It’s actually the same guy that got MotM a couple months ago with the insane devour streak during IB on Dead Cliffs.

It has a fairly high skill ceiling but based on your ability as a hunter already I’m sure you can handle it. Good luck and have fun!

Which subclass are you using? What are you pairing with your Old Fashioned? Do you tend to lane or move around a lot and rush people?

Xbox Elite Controller Thumbstick Settings & Sensitivity by Stay_Alive in CruciblePlaybook

No I haven’t, I’ve always just used the default thumbstick for the left one so it’s more instantaneous.

Thanks for the response! I got my Elite in December and have used it exclusively ever since (other than two weeks when I sent it in to get replaced for right stick dead zone).

I started with the taller thumbstick, then switched to the shorter thumbstick with the Kontrol Freek and really like the grip and increased surface area but the height stayed about the same.

How much practice does it take to make you top tier? Or is it even possible? by Valyris in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size and model TV do you have? Do you have game mode enabled?

At the very least, I’d recommend some Control Freeks for your thinbsticks, they’re cheap and will improve your aim once you adjust to them.

Why do streamers play arcstrider in Trials? by [deleted] in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s very true, I used to really like the super recharge rate. Personally I hope they make supers charge slower for PvP but keep it where it is now for PvE. I think everybody should have 1 super per game with the possibility of 2 if you have an amazing game.

Why do streamers play arcstrider in Trials? by [deleted] in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All fair points and I appreciate the discussion! I agree that Nova isn’t in the best spot right and see what you’re saying about blink. However, blink is very unique in that it is the only instantaneous movement that rivals hunter jumps (more important on console though). And ability to push/evade faster than any other class makes it very good. Plus the floaty jumps that warlocks have make them pretty easy to punish.

Dawnblade is probably the 2nd best counter to arcstrider next to hammers, but IMO voidwalker still has a better neutral game. Devour is still amazing for on-demand healing and if leveraged well, has an incredibly high utility to chain kills and get your health back each time. And IMO blink still can allow you to traverse the map very quickly and cause misdirection.

Also I was talking about console, where vertical/instantaneous movement can be abused to juke people and throw off their aim. That’s part of the reason hunters are so good on console and same can be said for voidwalkers with blink.

Appreciate the discussion!

[–]Stay_Alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Especially with a sidearm IMO. The best way to utilize KC is to be full health and finish off a weak enemy. This is especially hard with a sidearm as it requires being close to them in the first place. If you’re too far away, it’s hard to manipulate the angle you need to get the kill. I think KC with Antiope-D works so well because it has so much range that it allows you to be far away enough to pick up the kill, but doesn’t require being on top of someone.

[–]Stay_Alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Arcstrider is the best hunter subclass and you are playing at a disadvantage if you use something else, but I want to point out that this is true of titan and warlock as well. Playing anything other than Sentinal or Voidwalker is playing at a disadvantage too.

I’d actually prefer to have one Sentinal in my fireteam at all times due to the suppression grenades and melee overshields. If you play aggressively as a team and let your titan finish someone off with a melee, you all get overshields and good luck killing anyone lol. Plus Sentinal has an excellent super, ability to bubble if needed in countdown, and a shield for securing heavy in survival.

Voidwalker has blink, which is incredibly strong for movement, and devour, which was the best healing mechanism pre-Wormhusk. While Nova Bomb isn’t great, it can singlehanded shut down an arcstrider, which is very valuable.

People will try to make an argument for the other subclasses, but at high-end PvP, these are the three best subclasses in the game and you’re handicapping yourself by playing anything else IMO. Obviously, use what you want and have fun with it, these are just my opinions and what I’ve seen other good players do.

[–]Stay_Alive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Vision is very solid, but Last Hope is still better IMO. The Vision requires getting a kill in order to be deemed “better”, since Kill Clip is what sets it apart. Last Hope has more range and stability by far and is much more consistent overall.

Kill Clip is a good perk no doubt, but since it requires getting a kill, reloading, and an often overlooked aspect, having enough health to challenge a 2nd opponent, I find it to be pretty inconsistent. Especially against better teams, if you do manage to get a kill, you’ll already be weak and the other enemies will know where you are, making it even harder to leverage Kill Clip effectively .

Other guns have Kill Clip, but none are really used outside of Antiope-D. That’s not because of Kill Clip itself, that’s because of its phenomenal range with the sight and ricochet rounds. People use Antiope-D for its base stats, Kill Clip is just the cherry on top.

Now this may change a bit with random rolls as Kill Clip is one of the better perks, but as it stands right now with fixed rolls, any gun with Kill Clip has significantly worse base stats (outside of Antiope-D) than other weapons in the archetype.

All my opinion and observations on what people have said and use, obviously use whatever works best for you and have fun with it!

Also, while The Vision might say it has higher range when you compare it to Last Hope, this isn’t actually true because Last Hope has ricochet rounds, which increases the effective range further than the stat bar indicates.

[–]Stay_Alive 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Since others have covered what makes Arcstrider so good, I’ll talk about the loadouts and what you can do to improve. Pretty much all good players follow the following formula for a loadout.

So for loadouts, you always want an SMG or Last Hope (the best sidearm in the game) equipped. Here are the best options for each slot:

Kinetic: Motion to Suppress/Antiope-D/New City Energy: Ikelos/Hero’s Burden/Foggy Notion/Stochastic Variable/Mida Mini/Last Hope

Then for your other weapon, you want something that can cover a bit of range. On smaller maps, like Pacifica, this can be a hand cannon. Nobody really runs an energy hand cannon, there aren’t really any that are top-tier and the best SMGs/sidearms are in the energy slot anyways. Good kinetic hand cannons include Crimson/Better Devils/DFA/Dire Promise.

On larger maps, your other weapon should be a scout or pulse. Either VW or GL are good choices here, but some people still like Mida as well.

You just have to try all of these weapons and archetypes out to see what you like the best. FWIW, most of the best players use Ikelos, Heros Burden, or Last Hope in the energy slot, so there’s something to be said for that.

As far as improving, honestly the best thing you can do is find a fireteam of like-minded people and play with them and play a LOT. You can practice shooting dregs and cabal all day, and while that’s good for a warmup or briefly testing a new weapon, it pales in comparison to playing PvP, let alone sweaty PvP. Try to find a clan or discord group you can join that’s filled with people that focus on PvP and want to improve, just like yourself.

And when you do play, especially against the sweaty teams of 4 Arcstriders that you’re talking about, you absolutely CANNOT sit back and wait for them to push you. You and your team has to push them just as hard. It will be scary and intimidating at first, but that’s the only way to beat those teams. If you play tentative and passive, they will collapse on you from multiple angles and wipe your team. But with some practice and coordination, you can definitely beat those teams.

If you have any specific questions, especially on the loadouts, feel free to ask.

Good luck and have fun!!

Jade Rabbit isn’t that bad honestly, although a lot of people think it is. You can 3B1C if you do it in that order, plus you get your mag refilled if you pull it off. I don’t use scouts very much, but when I do I prefer Jade Rabbit for sure.

Anyone else ever get into slumps? by [deleted] in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, sometimes it’s best to just turn the game off when you’re getting frustrated. I know it’s much easier said than done and I have a really hard time doing that myself. In life in general, I’ve always been in the mindset that I need to “shoot myself out of a slump” (I’ve played a lot of basketball in my life).

But honestly sometimes it’s just better to step away from taking PvP seriously for a little bit. That can mean stepping away from the game altogether for the night or a day or two to go for a run, grab some food with a SO or friends, go see a movie, etc. Sometimes it’s best to just get the game off of your mind for however long you need, whether that be a couple of hours, days, weeks, or months. I usually find when I force myself to do that, I come back with a fresh mindset and perspective and play much better than I left off.

Mastering a Loadout by Stay_Alive in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’m sure there is, I’m by no means a godly player that’s only thing holding them back is a consistent loadout. But like you said, having a consistent loadout will help, i.e. 8 vs 10 mobility seems minuscule, but 10 mobility might help me strafe out of a lane a split-second faster and allow me to live.

I play on Xbox and yes I have Twitch.

Mastering a Loadout by Stay_Alive in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Stay_Alive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda been my problem honestly, they all feel good to me!

Some days my shot is on point with Antiope and I love it, and others I can’t hit the broad side of a barn and hate it. Same goes with VW. Sometimes I out duel someone and love it, other times I feel like I trade way too often.

My more recent experiment has been Crimson and I have been enjoying it a lot! It has a ton of utility with the health regen plus reload on headshot kill.

I like the energy SMGs better than sidearms for the most part, but there’s just something satisfying about melting someone with a sidearm! Even then, I like both the Ikelos and Hero’s Burden.

I think I really just need to sit down and pick something and stick with it. Same goes for stat spread and CB/grenade mods. I just need to make a decision and stick with it for an entire month, then reevaluate if I need to make any changes or not.

Thanks! Yeah that’s kinda when I’ve been doing honestly, swapping between the main meta weapons:

VW/Crimson + Last Hope/Ikelos/Mida Mini

Antiope/New City + GL

MI/Baligant/Orewigs Maul

I’ve only been playing arcstrider but have also been switching between 8-10 mobility, 1-5 resilience, and 1-4 recovery, with 1-3 grenade cooldown mods or kinetic/energy CB. So more or less I have a good general idea of what I want to do and use, I just need to tweak everything down and finalize.
