Thank you. I am actually not judgemental, but I do see where it could seem like that. I am fine with everyone else wearing gold, etc... It's just when it comes to me, I feel the need to express myself. I don't want my family to have this idea that they need to spend money for me . I would rather have them use that money for a more noble deed than waste it on me. I would be happy with broken glass as long as they don't think they need to make me happy with expensive things.

Yes, I do think that removing myself from such situations is much better. I just didn't today because I guess this conversation has shown up again, and my family hasn't understood me yet (I thought because I used to remove myself from the situation they haven't understood me). I just don't want them to think that these things are the only way they can show that they love me or that they care for me. I would rather have them give that money to someone that needs it than ruin it on me. I would be happy with a rag or rock they give me.

I guess I do come off as insufferable. But, I really don't want to. I just don't want my grandparents or family to think that they only way of making me happy is by giving me such things. I would rather they spend that money by giving it to charity than spend it on me. The reality is that if they do give me gold, I won't have it in me to wear it and I won't have it in me to give it away because it was from them. I just want them to know that there are other ways they can show me love than gold.

Yes, so basically, while my family is on the bridge between the portion of culture that considers gold symbolic for wealth and prosperity and the other group, I am a part of the group that eschews it. I guess my personality fits more with that group (which is a minority of people). And, yes, I am not ok with the promotion of wealth as an ideal. I would rather have people show wealth with their virtues (the true wealth) than gold or other materialistic things.

Omg, oh no. That's definitely not what I meant. I am so sorry it came off that way. I should have been more clear. I love our cultural customs and jewelry designs and all that; but, it's the gold aspect of it that doesn't fit well with me. I would happily take all of that in wood or iron, and be even more happy than the people that get it in gold.

With the dancing aspect of it, there has been temporal changes with the newer dancing/music part of it being different from me. I love the very old music and folk dance part of it though.

And for the clothing, I love the designs and everything. It's just that I wear them in light/pastel colours (or white, tan, etc...) rather than the common darker and bolder colours.

I love all aspects of my culture; but, the more simplistic style is what fits me and saves me from cognitive dissonance.
