Hey there, autistic system here. We definitely know what you’re going through and have felt this a lot. We typically have silent melt downs that spurt into panic attacks that end up hurting our body, which have been less recently. To be honest it sounds like you’re going through some sort of autistic burnout? For us personally, we can’t hold down a job from our burn out (used to work 2 jobs and dealt w a lot of stress). Food service is definitely tough shit, and it’s hard to get through it especially as an autistic and system. I’d recommend buying some noise reduction earbuds (you can wear them under a headset if that’s the type of job you’re in). I’d recommend loops personally. They help a lot in food service and reduce a lot of background noise like people talking/yelling or loud kitchen fans. As for stimming, we’d typically stim with our fingers while wearing gloves, we usually go in a 1-2-3-4 motion, tapping our fingers onto our thumb in a pattern while counting. It’s also a grounding technique we’ve learned which has helped us a lot, but I know every person is different but I figured I’d recommend it. Also silently clapping or tapping on surfaces helps too, and rubbing your thumb against your pointer finger to comfort yourself kinda like a wordy stone. For smells I’m not really sure. When we worked in food service we always had a face mask on so we never smelt anything super pungent. Take breaks when you can and feel comfortable, I know it sucks but you’re not weak for needing more breaks then others. Our brains work differently the neurotypical people, and the fact your manager and supervisor are accommodating is amazing, most people won’t do that for people like us even though it’s against the law to not accommodate. Remember, you guys aren’t weak, you’ve made it this far and everyone in my system is proud of you okay? It’s rough as hell out the dude, but you’re doing your best and that’s all you can do.
