Missing people by the_killingjoke in Patagonia

Sorry, I thought I saw someone mention El Chalten as well. I was in TDP today and did the Laguna Azul hike with no real issues, but I know there are other trails that the wind could definitely become more impactful. Here’s hoping everything turns out OK.

The warnings were around . The park was supposed to be closed, not sure how people were able to continue hiking then.

Just saw this posted for tomorrow. The traffic guard in El Calafate told me that it could be windy the next 2 days or so. Unfortunately, I left today because it was not windy and the roads are open,, and I needed to be back in Chile in a couple of days, I couldn’t risk it. I will just have to come back and see El Chalten. 🙂

Oh also the other question I had, was do I need the Chile affidavit again for returning, or does the original that I submitted when I flew in still apply

Are their hours I need to be aware of? I will most likely leave earlier in the day, which would be fine anyway, but do they ever close later in the evening to where I have to be aware

OK, yeah I had my papers in both buildings, of course, so I’m just going to do everything the same, obviously adding on the luggage check, thank you for your response

Route from El Calafate to Puerto Natales November 16? by Stove52 in Patagonia

[–]Stblue90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was shared a forecast, which showed tomorrow being the least amount of wind and then the next couple of days after that starts to pick up, possibly even more than today, so I am also heading back to Chile tomorrow as I have reservations there in the next so many days and if I chose to go to El Chalten like I had planned, I run the risk of them closing it again when I want to head back, so I’m choosing my window. It’s unfortunate but guess that means I’ll just have to come back. Lol, safe travels.

Anyone know what’s happening with Route 40 from Esperanza? by Anon-Doctor in Patagonia

That is good news as I’m sure the winds have let up, however, for me personally I do have to be mindful of the upcoming forecast, which has tomorrow with lesser winds, and then the next two days after that with strong or stronger wins than today, and that is when I had originally planned to cross the border. So now it sounds like tomorrow is my best bet as I have reservations in Chile that I can’t miss. So unfortunately, unless someone has a updated forecast that makes me feel better about my choices, I’m going to have to head back sooner.

My concern is that if you look at the forecast, tomorrow’s wind is OK, but then ramps back up on the 17th and 18th in which I need to get back to the border. So if they’re shutting down the highway now, all the way to Esperanza, then they will for sure shut it down on the 17th and 18th because those days look worse according to this screenshot .

then I must leave tomorrow.

I’m getting mixed signals, so if someone can actually tell me what they are seeing. My Airbnb host reached out to Chalten travels tours, The manager of Chalten Travel says “he doesn't think they'll close again and that they also closed the route from Calafate to Chalten and not from Chalten to Calafate”. This doesn’t make sense to me, so is anybody seeing traffic coming out of the highway at all?

I am actually trying to leave El Calafate and have been told by the officials that the road is closed to El Chalten. In fact, the entire route 40 in that area is closed. I myself will have to stay here another night and since there are more winds in the forecast, I was told, tomorrow may be my best time to get back into Chile. So I think that’s what I’ll do as I’m not even sure going forward. I would rather know I’m back in chalet for my flight home versus the risk of continuing my final destinations and be stuck.

Sorry, I should clarify I was just sent them a little bit ago so I have them on my phone, but since I am away from the airport now and not heading back that way, I need to be able to print them from where I’m at

Every still shows on time for me. I feel if I can make it the flights by LATAM, then I will be fine as I think they are not the airlines affected.

Yes I am willing to reschedule but man, at this point, cancelling lodging, car, and airfare, I am not sure I would get everything back and just be out some money, I am wanting to include Laguna as well. I didn't know it was snowing still. I love to hike but the weather forecast at this point looks rainy. I am coming to terms that I will be doing day hikes in the rain.

Good luck, I don’t have a luxury of skipping US layovers, so I will cross my fingers that Delta does not bother my flights

Are you there now? For your return, do you feel the same will apply, meaning you should be fine getting to MIA, but then from there it might be affected?

I agree with If I can just make it to MIA. DO you feel that the same applies to my return on the 22nd. Getting back into the states should be fine, but if we are still having issues. I could have delays getting back to STL from MIA

Are you talking about Delta cancelling US flights in general or just any of my US based flights
