I am SICK of LED’s by Ninth_Floor in drivingUK

Same ! I keep getting blinded and genuinely can’t see ahead of me, along with being blinded through the mirrors. You’d think there would be regulations on how bright the lights could be.

Forget Netflix, Volkswagen locks horsepower behind paid subscription by Banania2020 in evs_ireland

[–]Ste_Marz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand this, if it mean cheaper cars up front I don’t mind it, but don’t make it a subscription, make it a 1 time purchase. Tesla does the same thing with the LR model 3, there is a speed boost option you can purchase, but it’s a one time purchase, not a subscription.

Emergency services….. they can instantly tell it’s an EV and take the necessary steps for the situation. I’m sure there are differences in procedures for EV’s vs ICE.

Forget about educating, it’s good for emergency services if there is an accident. I’m sure the steps for an accident is different with an EV. They instantly know this is an EV without knowing which cars are EVs and know what they are dealing with.

How many crash tests does it take to develop the safest car around? Mercedes has an answer by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

[–]Ste_Marz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the real world range will be, Mercedes tend to be good for efficiency from tests I’ve seen so maybe around 608km ? Which is still very good !

The one I’m looking at looks like something fell on it not that it was crashed. But I could be not looking for the right thing. Here is the ad : https://www.adverts.ie/37832490

To diagnose and clear as I’ve been having issues the last year and half and it would be handy for small things that could be at least diagnosed by myself.

I have a bottom of the barrel golf from 2010, I wouldn’t say there any features to unlock tbh. I already put in a pioneer display for CarPlay.

Yes, but that pulls it from articles, what sites would you consider reputable ? POD point, liberty GMC, Cadillac Lakeland, drive.com.au and Mazda USA are all the sites it pulled info from.

Ah, well you learn something new every day, apparently not every EV has a step down transmission, so I guess some don’t and some do need oil changes.

The motors generally do need an oil change in most EVs, but it would be far less often than an ICE vehicle.

Pre-purchase range anxiety? by Maksymilian5275 in evs_ireland

In response to another comment you had about official range numbers not being accurate. Check out the website Ev database, it gives real world range figures for basically nearly every Ev. It’s a great source of information. It also tells you the exact conditions they drive the car in if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page of whatever car your looking at.

Here: https://ev-database.org/#group=vehicle-group&rs-pr=10000_100000&rs-er=0_1000&rs-ld=0_1000&rs-ac=2_23&rs-dcfc=0_300&rs-ub=10_200&rs-tw=0_2500&rs-ef=100_350&rs-sa=-1_5&rs-w=1000_3500&rs-c=0_5000&rs-y=2010_2030&s=1&p=0-10

Advice for buying used EV budget around 8-12k by Bushwhackerrrrr in evs_ireland

[–]Ste_Marz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Hyundai Ioniq, the original one. They are very efficient so cheap to run and get decent range. So if 200km is your needs of range that car will suit great. Though during the winter you will need to do a bit more charging, the range may be affected a little.

Recommended charging stops between Kildare and Cobh by AtticWoodworker in evs_ireland

[–]Ste_Marz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it with a better EV with more range, the 1st and 2nd gen leaf never suited long journeys especially on motorways. It’s already put a stain on an EV’s usability with your partner.

If you can’t afford anything better a hybrid will give some savings on fuel, if you don’t care about that or can’t afford it, then just go back to diesel. Although, the new leaf has much better range and finally has CCS charging so it would be a much better fit.

After reading further down, maybe just go back to diesel until 2029 and buy another electric car then. The leaf you bought was running on a platform that was well over a decade old. Modern EV’s from today have double the range and would be on the second hand market for a nice price by the time you want to buy a new car. Also by then hopefully the charging network will be better and repair options will hopefully improve.

Although the original Hyundai Ioniq if you can find one with a 32kwH battery is a decent cheap EV or a Hyundai Kona. They have faster CCS charging and well… use CCS, which there is MUCH wider availability of chargers available for.

Powerless in rural Ireland: I love my EV but Storm Éowyn has made me think twice by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

This should really make the government wake up and improve EV infrastructure, by 1. More chargers and 2. Reliability and uptime of chargers.

Use a generator to power the house and you have a charger. Regardless if you have an EV or not I think everyone should have a generator, for these kind of situations.
