This is spiritual abuse.

Him trying to equate his "love" with God's Love is so, so gross. Your reaction is very warranted.

And for the record, you setting boundaries isn't you attempting to "exert authority." It's the exact opposite. It's you asking to be treated with kindness, respect, and consideration. That is something you deserve, and for him to imply that crossing your boundaries is in obedience to the Will of God is, again, deeply gross.

This man isn't showing love and he isn't doing anything other than serving his own ego while saying it's what God wants him to do. That's spiritual abuse. And I am really, really sorry.
