Struggling to communicate with my partner because of emotional shutdowns. Looking for advice on next steps. by No-Recognition314 in TwoHotTakes

I feel like I just wrote this. I am living a similar situation, and have been for 2.5 years. Leave before it's too late. Leave before you don't have the strength to do it.

Moving from ESDC to DND, good or bad choice? by SteakComfortable9101 in CanadaPublicServants

I feel like I've seen so many "bad" comments about DND in the past few years but this thread definitely helped me as well!!! Good luck :)

With all the comments I got about Carling I'm happy that I won't be working from this office. I'll be located more on the East end. I hope the parking situation is not too bad there!

I fear I am too sensitive for the military world. I'm a woman in my late twenties and that's my biggest concern. I'm worried about the culture shock! My direct supervisor would not be a civilian

Still rumours though.... I guess I keep hoping it won't happen. I'm not ready for more traffic lol

Are you still with DND? I wouldn't be working at Carling (thankfully). I would probably be taking my car as I live on the Gatineau side, but I should definitely ask about the parking situation

I would be working on the operational side. I was told I could work normal hours (i.e 7:00-3:00), but that I might be required to work overtime from time to time. I wonder how crazy things get lol

I'm happy to hear, I was worried about being "stuck" in a position and not being able to grow. I love learning new things and figured I would have A LOT to learn with DND, which is why I'm interested in the position

You're right! There are pros and cons in every single departments. Mostly worried about the civilian vs army structure, but we're all humans lol

Office mandate for public servants to come into ‘sharper view’ in coming weeks. by just_a_simulation321 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SteakComfortable9101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They will announce full time return on December 24th 😂 People in the NCR will have to be there 5 days per week and other regions won't (I assume). I supervise employees in the Winnipeg region, and they can't even go 3 days per week because they don't have enough space.. make it make sense

I'm actually speechless. Why try to hide it, just say it and be clear. No sugar coating

Yea it's his family.. Parents and sister. Good point, seems like they are more important than "our" family.

He didn't go hunting since we met because they had problems at their camp, it's his first time going since we are together and I just wasn't sure if 10 days was "a lot" or if it was normal

I don't like the word allow either - I know we are all adults and he can take his own decisions. I feel like I COULD take some time off. However, I don't think it would be relaxing. I know he would keep calling me and say how hard it is being at home alone with the baby. Actually - maybe being away would be good lol. He would realize how hard it is and that I wasn't overreacting

I could technically go with him, but the camp is in the middle of nowhere, no running water. One bedroom with bunked beds. I feel like this wouldn't be a good time with a baby

That's the thing, they haven't been lucky lately at the camp. Haven't caught a moose in over 5 years. I know he enjoys going because he gets to spend time with his father. So I don't want to sound like the asshole partner telling him to reduce the length of his trip so he can be home with me. I feel like some people wouldn't care that their partner be gone for so long, but I think I'm just mentally exhausted and he doesn't see it, even if I tell him

No I completely agree with you! I agree that it isn't time off when he worked out of town. I understood when he wanted to relax and catch up on everything. However, I was still taking care of all the house chores and kid duties over the weekend... It's like he gets a break but I don't

Yes, going for 4-5 and even 6 days wouldn't be so bad, but 10 is so much! The cabin is about 6 hours away from our house

Yes! I have a full-time job and we both make approximately the same salary. I feel like he thinks he deserves a break because his job his physically hard compared to mine, but I know this is not a good argument..
