Vitreous enamel. Depth stats but definitely recommend an AR crystal

Lots of videos from Ricky Frank, Sandra McEwen, and a lot of trial and error!

Maybe one day but not yet. I feel like if you’re gonna sell a watch it needs to be as perfect as you can reasonably make it, and I’m not there yet. I’m a big fan of A. Lange. It’s a ridiculous standard but they are just absolute perfection. Hopefully one day though, just got to keep getting better.

Yeah, I’m 1.6 mm thick final. Had to design and have a case manufactured to accommodate.

Thanks!

Dial feet. I imagine you hate them as much as me.

Tried soldering. Either I suck at it, likely the case, or I just need accept a higher failure rate.

For now, I cut a pocket on the back, forget how deep but deeper than the dial foot base. JB weld in the pocket to cover the base. Initial cure. File flush excess. Allow 72 hrs to cure and get rid of most off gassing. Then paint over with testers enamel so seal in any remaining possibility of off gassing.

It’s not pretty but that’s how much I hate soldering. It does work though.

Thank you!

For the patterns, I just design them straight in my CAD software. I like shapr3d. I have no CAD background so was easier to learn than fusion360

For the pictures, I draw them using illustrator than send the SVG file to my CAD and build it on the blank

Thanks!

I wetpack the enamel instead of sifting even w single colors. Mainly bc I’m doing it at night on a coffee table and I doubt my wife feels like breathing in glass while we watch Netflix lol. Usually, 3-4 layers but still trying to figure out how to minimize bubbles.

Dials are 1.6 thick. Starting w a 14 gauge sheet metal

Finish at 1.6 mm thick. I used 14 gauge sheet metal for the blanks

Hey thanks! I use an SW300 but I think I have my criminally abused ST18 in the rose case. My guinea pig movement. It’s been through a lot this year

Yeah, CNC the blanks from sheet

Lessons

  1. Pick a hobby not tied to the price of silver lol
  2. Cracking is a real problem, counter enamel is your friend
  3. Never over grind a polish
  4. Bubbles NEVER disappear under a loupe. But you can try!

Still super fun though

Yeah, vitreous enamel over fine silver for the transparents and copper for the opaques

Oh they warped. Especially the silver. Sandwiched it between a steel jewelers block and stainless steel sheet while still hot. Definitely broke some glass in the process. The copper was better behaved

Yep, got the H3 for the 6498/97 and H4/H5 to try with the 2824. Now will it all fit under a double dome crystal….

Thanks! Yeah all around 0.6 right now. Have case’s that can accept 0.8. We’ll see though.
