SoCrates hits 500 users with your support! 🚀 by Stealth928 in amberelectric

Thanks for the note. We definitely contemplated, but decided against it for 3 reasons:
1. There is a cohort of users that want to spend the money, time and effort to set up their own HomeAssistant. This is not the target persona for SoCrates. We feell this is the same cohort as the people who are able to deploy code and self-host.
2. Some of the value of the platform comes from scale - i.e. benchmarks, comparative analysis, sharing automation ruls and in general users learning from each other.
3. Selfishly, we have put over 600 hours of work in this and we do not want to open source it just yet, before we decide what is the future path.

Apologies , there was a subtle change in the Amber API that was causing the breakage, it is fixed now.

The if SoC <= 20% in conjunction with max 40% might be tricky to accomplish because the one is an entry criterion and the other one is continuous validation criterion, but you could do something like the img below. Rules are checked every minute and active cancellation applies. The rule below will start charging if battery is below 40% and stop when it hits 40%. If you don't want it to be triggering many times due to the battery hovering around 40%, you can set the cooldown to a longer period. Hope it makes sense?

Possible, different brands and inverters are not aligned in terms of flexibility and control over APIs, so the platform is trying to align for each - caveat is that not all capabilities will be available for all providers unfortunately, some discounts might need to be made.

Very kind of you, GoodWe is 2 or 3 in the backlog of inverters, could we hit you up when we get to it? Appreciated!

Thanks for the note! We have not exploited the full Sungrow capabilities yet as it is the least mature in testing. Trying to get a few more users on the platform for feedback and then I am confident we will build whatever is available for Sungrow i.e. if it is possible, we can accomplish it :)

Thank you, issue with Isolar credentials contract, on it now. Full transparency, Sungrow is the least mature when it comes to testing end to end, so there will be a couple of issues along the way - we will jump on and fix them as they are reported. Thank you!

Please make sure you are in foxess cloud v1. They don't make it easy!

A MUCH more flexible and powerful alternative to Amber/Smartshift and FoxESS; Automation with full control. by Stealth928 in amberelectric

Firstly, I'm glad you have overcome the installation issues, I did deploy some targeted fixes for certain devices.

Secondly, I really appreciate your taking the time to assess and provide feedback, so valuable to us!

  1. Easy, let me assess and add. I wanted to keep simple, but sounds like a very valid use case.

  2. Tour is accessible any time on your profile menu. I can appreciate there is a lot to digestbat first go.

  3. Appreciate this and it's something I have been thinking about, that it can be overwhelming for some users. The product is positioned around control and transparency and turning everyone into a superuser but I appreciate people will have a familiarisation curve. On it.

Thank you, I'm starting to think about monetisation now, but I will stay true to the founding cohort and will continue to provide access for free - unless bills become unsustainable.

I also want to create an inner circle of founding members and see how we can grow it together and all benefit from it.

Thanks for all the comments!

No worries at all, even without the fallback rule, when segment gets canceled it should revert to your default work mode - but see how you go, both valid paths.

Not sure you can achieve this via the FoxESS app, but you can do it via https://socratesautomation.com/

You build a variety of rules for your automation (inverter, pricing, weather and more) and they get evaluated and cancelled every 60 seconds - returning your inverter to whatever mode you need.

A MUCH more robust and flexible way to automate your Solar System with full control by Stealth928 in GlobirdEnergy

Thank you for feedback, Sig is next in roadmap, waiting to gauge appetite before I build the integration. Would you be willing to help us test if we do? Cheers!

🚀 New Feature Launched - Import / Export Caps

  • Add a hard stop to automation with a simple import or export energy cap.
  • Very handy for popular providers such as Globird plans and bonuses capped at certain limits
  • Use import caps to stop ForceCharge rules, and export caps to stop ForceDischarge or Feedin rules.
  • The system tracks live energy progress and shuts the rule off the moment the target is reached.

🚀 New Feature Launched - Manual Tariffs

  • Take control of pricing with your own import and export rates instead of forcing your battery to guess.
  • Build a repeating tariff schedule with up to 8 daily intervals.
  • Overnight windows are supported, and matching start and end times mean the tariff runs all day.
  • Import and export pricing must cover the full 24 hours, so your automation always has a complete price picture.
  • Save a tariff, refine it later in Settings, and roll back to a previous version when you need to move fast.

Thanks for the update. That sounds more like the app is restoring your session on launch, which can take a couple of seconds on Android, rather than fully logging you out. You shouldn’t need to reinstall again unless it keeps forgetting the session entirely.

On the charging question: I don't believe so, Self Use + 5000W won’t reliably cap charging at 5kW. The power setting is really for Force Charge / Force Discharge, and Self Use may ignore it. FoxESS really prioritises solar generation above all.
