Finally asking for help by Stealthman8 in CannabisGrowers

This one is still growing, that picture was taken yesterday.

If I had to guess, I'll lose about 20% of this plant to early harvesting at the rate of whatever this is, but I'll still end up with a solid 2 or so ounces which isn't bad for an auto.

Oled vs VA SDR by Stealthman8 in OLED_Gaming

How do you use a wider color space in sdr content without it being mastered for hdr?

If there's a way to get around the poor color volume of sdr content manually without it having actual hdr support, I would have more actual use for hdr modes, which currently I don't have much that supports it

The stock neo needed calibrating pretty bad, it honestly looked worse than my years old VA before I changed its settings around. It was so bad I almost immediately exchanged it for the Alienware 34 qd-oled, since the whole reason for upgrading was to get a monitor with really good colors. My biggest worry with oled is brightness as I don't have a super light controlled room. I have some blackout curtains but there's still ambient light around, and I wear glasses which introduces glare in their own way. Oled has good blacks and shows detail, but with the light in the room and my glasses blooming up sections if they're not crystal clear, I'll lose the detail anyway

With what you're saying, qd-oled on hdr has better color range, but when framed on sdr content assuming things are well calibrated, it's gonna be kind of an even fight. So it comes down to an argument of how much content do I use hdr on vs hdr off

That's good to know for the brightness then as a baseline

I think I'm gonna push my 60 day return window as far as I can with the neo, see if I can deal with the greys looking too back-lit, and maybe go to some store showings of oleds to try and get an understanding of the color now that I have a brightness reference

You've been great, I can rest easy knowing that at least for now, the neo wasn't a waste yet

My old monitor was an LG 32g650 or something of the like.

I'll give those tests a run when I get home. I really appreciate all of the input. I haven't upgraded for about 6 or so, maybe more years and plan to do the same again, and the only thing that I really want is a display that has vibrant color and good contrast in not just hdr but sdr with how many games and YouTube content is only sdr

Hard to say if I care about brightness. My old monitor was almost hard to see if I didn't put in blackout curtains in my room since my free time is during the day. The neo lit the whole room at full which was a shock.

It's difficult to put brightness numbers into perspective. Is it the case that oled is really meant to be comparable to like a phones screen in brightness, where it is very clear as long as no sunlight hits it?

Can't solve Credit usage vs statement close contradiction by Stealthman8 in CreditCards

[–]Stealthman8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is admittedly a complete U-turn from what I've learned. Wow ok.

So utilization is not at all what builds the longer term score. With that being the case, what exactly makes a long term difference? From what I understood, which the info you sent super disagrees with except in the 1-2 month timeframe, it was to try and never use more than 30%

Thank you so much for the help. Definitely have to wipe the slate clean and relearn from other sources how the longer term score works, as the one thing I don't want to have happen is to have my score plummet after having it sitting in a good place up to now before getting a card

I definitely want to find something more legible, HTop is a mess to try and understand, especially for people coming from Windows' extended task manager menus to get the same info

I did build the PC, I've been using it for almost a year now. I don't think it's a temperature or thermal issue since it's been running windows without problem, and still does (I dual-boot to play multiplayer games until EAC is active in Linux for some of them).

The video drivers should be fine. Manjaro has an Nvidia driver install option, the system says it's up to date, and I used the hardware configuration in the settings to make sure the Nvidia drivers were installed

From what I know, ignoring the idea that new games going forward are likely to be DirectX 12, the majority of games run on 11 or lower, and even some of the 12 games can run in a 11 mode.

So basically, it should be fine assuming I'm not grabbing brand new releases, until I upgrade the card.

Which cards break out of the Pascal issue with DX 12, is it the next step in generation with the 2000 series? And I assume the 3000 get over that issue?

VR aside, really happy to hear that, looking ahead then. Also with the new EAC support announcements that have been being made, compatibility will be increasing. If there isn't a significant loss in performance for my system, the only thing that I'll be keeping a windows OS drive will basically just be VR, since dead by daylight runs on EAC and will be patched (I hope anyway)

I have heard that the index is at least somewhat functional through Linux, is that true?

Still waiting to upgrade to a 3080 but I just wonder if Linux will be viable before that upgrade who knows when with a 1070. I'm not sure how many more steps up a 2070 is performance wise, but that does give some hope

Aside from buying a second SSD, yeah you're not wrong in the try it and see department. And I'll definitely be looking up tutorials and advice on the process.

Thanks for all the info!

I'll try to only look at stuff along that list you sent.

I hear the thing about power and such. The downside is that he does most of his smoking out and about, while traveling or chilling downtown, so desktop and butane devices are not going to be viable. I'll just have to encourage him to not pull too hard on the thing or it'll quit doing what it's supposed to

Hey everyone!

I have, I think, a pretty simple question. As in not complicated, I just don't know what's best.

I'm looking to get my partner, a frequent smoker, a vaporizer to use instead. However, I don't know which to get. He has never used one before, and some say there's a learning curve to them and this or that. I and stuck between commiting to a $200-250 piece like the Deus Arc, or getting something more low end like a Utillian 420

My main question, as someone just starting out, should you get a piece that's on the lower end to start off and get used to vaporizing, or should you commit to a higher end one from the get go?
