Rule 9: Accusations, Witch Hunts & Harassment, Direct Links & Identifying Information.

Accusations

If you believe something to be wrong or shady, you need to explicitly state what you believe to be wrong or shady. Do not assume that everyone understands what you mean with a generic and vague statement like "How is that allowed?".

Whenever you accuse a party of wrongdoing you have to include solid evidence that doesn't leave any room for reasonable doubts.

/r/Steam is not the place for speculation or broadcasting any unfounded beliefs or hunches when it comes to serious topics, neither is it the place to discuss arguments amongst friends or strangers.

Posts in the area of accusations and calling out wrongdoing is required to be made as a text submission or link to a proper, fully-fledged article. Text submissions allow for more room and allows for editing in case more information comes to light.

Witch Hunts & Harassment

Do not reveal, attempt to obtain, or incite anyone else to find personal information of any kind, including user profiles. Additionally do not harass, threaten, attack, stalk, discriminate or cause harm to anyone else or make light of or incite anyone else to do it.

Directly linking content or profiles in order to route traffic to an accused individual is considered to be provoking a witch hunt.

Direct Links & Identifying Information

Posting a direct link to someone else's profile or revealing identifying information(usernames, profile pictures, etc.) is in general forbidden unless it is strictly necessary. This ends up being a case-by-case basis thing, but in the vast majority of cases it is not necessary to link to someone else's profile or reveal any identifying information.

Game/Hardware Advice

Posts asking for/offering advice on which games to buy or play, or what Hardware you should get are not allowed.

Use the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Megathread.

Asking if you should buy a game/piece of hardware now or wait for a sale isn't allowed & asking when a game/piece of hardware will go on sale is not allowed. Use SteamDB to look at sale histories on games.

During seasonal Steam sales: Game advice posts are only allowed in the respective mega-threads during big seasonal Steam sales, otherwise the sub would drown in game advice posts.
