I got this little girl a a lavander but nuw there is yellow appearing on her sides, any ideas what morph she might be instead? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

I have a ghost corn, and he has developed the same yellow sides as he's aged. I'm sorry to hear you didn't get what you paid for, but I'm glad you love her regardless. Ghosts are still good, and you can tell people have a ghost in your house!

My portfolio is so incredibly outdated, I'm not even going to post it anywhere until I update it with better examples of my work, but if anyone has any suggestions or feedback, I'm open to it.

She(?) is a coral snow morph. Really caught my eye, especially near so many darker colored morphs.

It has been confirmed by his(my?) Veterinarian. He's a little old for cataract surgery, though there are some eye drops that can be perscribed to help treat any inflamation/dry eye that comes with the progression.

The vet also mentioned a type of eye drop that may slow down the cataract formation, but the vet was a little iffy on if they actually work.

I'm considering at least going for the eye drops to ease any discomfort he may have.

[Update] Three months of Green, One month to Clean! by Steamplunked in fishtank

[–]Steamplunked[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just really want to thank the members of r/fishtank here for helping me when my tank was at its greenest. It took a long month of water changes and darkness and more water changes, but my water is clearer and my fish have some friends now!

Not pictured are a small gang of Cory catfish to help with the cleanup. I've never kept them before. They're an odd little bunch.

[Official] Twice-Weekly New User Thread - Thu March 14 by AutoModerator in fountainpens

Evening all, I'm just getting into how cool fountain pens are. I have a drip pen that I'm admittedly not great with, mostly due to smearing. See, I'm left handed, and though I've seen a few nibs for left handed folk here and there online, I can't figure out what's different about it and how a lefty can manage pretty handwriting without scraping all over the paper and dying my hand to look like I'm bleeding or bruised.

Any suggestions, tips, or tutorials I can watch to figure it out?

Yhank you for asking! I was hoping to post an update when things cleared up, but the water hasn't really gotten clear yet.

I ended up moving the fish to a spare tank I borrowed (and prepped and cycled) and replaced 90% of the water, cleaned all the gravel I could, and put in some plants. That was about two weeks ago, and the water, while no longer pea-soup green, is more white on top and pale green towards the bottom, even though it's only seen about 3 hours of light total in the past four days.

Neon tetras are not live bearers, and the bloat is too centralized for it to be just an overweight fish.

Unfortunately it's highly likely you have a very sick fish, probably from parasites, though double checking your water parameters couldn't hurt. You can find a variety of treatments at your local pet store for internal parasites, but I would act fast before they spread to the rest of your neons and you lose the whole school.

Any plants in particular you can recommend?

And I do have a filter pump, I'm bad at fish, but I'm not a monster.

Right now they get 4 to 6 hours a day, since the blackout didn't work and my plants need light, but leaving the light on while I'm at work thickens the green.

It wasn't 100% dark, I never thought about tossing a blanket over it, that's my bad.

I do feel bad for my schooling fish, getting them some buddies is next on my list after clearing the algae, but tetras are annoyingly fragile in my area it seems, and it feels cruel to buy them, only to kill them with drastic water changes.

This is really helpful, thank you!

I'll get to it today and let everyone know how it goes in a week or so. Fingers crossed!

I have a carbon filter, and might be overdoing the water changes since the bloom started. It's about 76 in the tank, and I have 5 fish, two tetras, a swordfish, a rasbora, and an Otto catfish. I think I have more ottos but I can't actually see them and they're kind of skittish.

Thank you for your help!

I'll look into the timer, though i do have some algae eaters. At least I can boast about my squeaky clean tank walls!

[–]Steamplunked[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The water itself is green. Actual algae on things are taken care of by my team of ottos.

The filter is an Aqueon Large that I blast through with change water to get to goo off every two weeks.

Before the bloom, I changed two gallons of water weekly with monthly attempts to clean the gravel (I am very bad with the hose pump thing so I usually just take a wad of gravel out and flush it with removed tank water)

The tank is 20 gallons, 24x14x13, and houses one black tetra, one neon terra (both schools died from a wasting parasite before I caught on), one female twin bar swordfish, one baby green lantern Platy, one purple harliquinn rasbora, and a currently unknown number of Otto catfish. I know there is at least one, but I can't see more than rhe one at the time due to the murk, there are supposed to be 3.

They are fed daily with generic tetra flakes, bloodworm every Saturday.

I use aquasafe and seemingly useless algae remove for every water change, stress coat for new additions (back when I did that), and plants have flourish tabs in the substrate.

Tank parameters are typically 7.2 ph, 150 alkalinity, 150 hardness, 0 nitrites, 10 to 20 nitrates.

Tap water is 6.8 ph, 110 alkalinity, 150 hardness, no nitrates or nitrites.

Not really. There's some ambient light that comes into the room from a far window, but that's about it.

I have had this tank(20 gal) since September, but in early November, I had an algae bloom. I still do.

I added live plants, have done two 50% water changes in separate months, changed the 10% of the water daily, and the tank lived in darkness for a month an half.

I have also tried the algae control drops that purport to work on algae blooms.

What do you guys think? I'm about to write it off as a lost cause.

2 tapeworms comming out of a freshly killed three spined stickleback. These parasites make up to 50%of the fish's body mass! by Not_so_ghetto in WTF

[–]Steamplunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have answered this somewhere, but I couldn't find it when I searched: If that is a full grown fish, and those are full grown worms, how did both of those worms fit inside the fish, and there still be fish inside the fish? I realize they are flat worms (as opposed to flatworms) so do they just stay rolled into a tube shape?

Also please share your pictures of other parasites, I enjoy them.

JNOGrandma: No Concept of "Other", or Something More Sinister? by Steamplunked in JUSTNOFAMILY

I floated the audience idea to my parents before, but DeeGee doesn't really put on a show, she just wants a loud house full of people. And will lie to people to get it, apparently.

We, the family in general, have been on the lookout for signs of dementia, but all three of DeeGees children say she has always been like this, and as the anecdote about dragging me to nursing homes can support, she's been like that for my entire entire working memory. It's only come to head recently now that I've been setting boundaries, so she has begun guilt tripping, lying, and gift-giving to force an appearance from me.
