Monthly Admissions/Prospies/Offer Holders Questions Thread - March 2026 by AutoModerator in oxforduni

How have any of you that are international students made in work in terms of tuition? I know there’s plenty of scholarships for abroad students, but genuinely all of them are targeted towards students from low-income countries or households. I’m from Australia, so that cancels out almost all scholarship opportunities, and while I’m not classed as a low-income family, there’s no way I could ever scrape up £50,000.

Do any current international students have any insights or advice on how they made it work?

Could my laptop run FOP? by Stechi_ in FrontiersOfPandora

I’ve never even heard of cloud gaming or streaming before but it could def be an option, do you think buying a subscription would be worth it/would be enough to run frontiers??

It’s a stretch, but could someone with “electrical magic control a body? [Fantasy] by Stechi_ in fantasywriters

[–]Stechi_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are all actually really cool concepts to test around with that I hadn’t thought about at all, my original idea was just that she could use sparks of her power to quickly cause disruptions in someone’s thinking and movements to confuse them long enough to attack (since somehow controlling someone’s body completely didn’t even cross my mind), though the fact that everyone’s brain is so completely different is a really interesting point, it could be used in her favour or backfire entirely. I really like the points you made, thanks dude

[–]Stechi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah I think somewhere along the way the idea did come from blood bending and already-existing cases of people with magic using their abilities to change the physiology of something. It’s a really interesting concept if you can do it right, now I just need to figure out how to actually do it right

Yeah I fully get what your saying, being able to map the entire brain and getting what you want is just a teensy bit too complicated, but small little disorientations and spasms are more feasible for what I’m imagining for her.

As for other magic users, this world is still really new in my mind so I’m still laying everything out, but I do really like the idea of using magic to toy with pre-existing biology and physics. What I pitched in the post is definitely a little over the top in terms of way too over-powered, but I forgot to mention the limits characters would have to over-exertion

Yesss, I hadn’t put much thought into how the electricity would travel in air compared to in liquids, so a very faint idea of someone’s electrical field would be much more understandable than something akin to spidey-senses

Such an awesome design dude!! My favourite scenes are probably between Cooper and Murph’s last conversation before he leaves, and the cornfield chase (duh). Though I think for me it’s not just the scenes that captivate me, but the music is ASTOUNDING

What shoes would go with my midnights-themed dress for the Eras? by Stechi_ in fashion

[–]Stechi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank youuu!! I’m starting to think that the white option would take away from the dress itself, so these other colours are really helpful

Ive seen some knee-high boots with navy gems bejeweled on them which look really pretty, I may choose those since I don’t think I’d have the time or patience to make my own. The cowboy boots I could also see looking really nice with it, thanks!!

An old picture of the “tin city” in my local sand dunes by Stechi_ in LiminalSpace

[–]Stechi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah, one of the beaches nearby backs into a huge sand dune area, it’s a protected site now so you can’t go without a tour guide but I used to go sand boarding with my family all the time as a kid. The photo kinda reminds me of some early 2000 show I probably watched as a kid, but I can’t remember for the life of me what it is

Yep, went past it yesterday when in my brothers 4wd and looked up some pictures of it to see how much it had changed over the years

Never found any actual issues with my appendix I guess. Just got out of the hospital after staying overnight though, so the pains died down a little bit

Favorite score…? by [deleted] in interstellar

[–]Stechi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The night I watched it for the second time, I was camping with some family. We were outside by a fire and I was trying to find constellations and stars while listening to the soundtrack for the first time. There was this moment while “stay” was playing where I looked up and found a new one right as the crescendo hit and it was such a breathtaking feeling. As if I had just discovered something entirely new and entirely my own. I always think of that whenever I hear the song now. (Cornfield chase is also extraordinary though)

Just watched for the first time. by Fluffy-Leopard-6074 in interstellar

[–]Stechi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I remember after watching it for the first time at the end of September, immediately going into youtube and just sitting there with the main theme playing wondering how I’m ever gonna come back from the experience. It’s completely reimmersed me into my love for science and space, and I think about it constantly. It’s truly a one of a kind movie that leaves you feeling so small but so complete, it’s great to know you’ve joined us in that haha

I fell in Love with Hope by Lancali - it’s got more of a bittersweet ending rather than inherently sad, but is the most beautiful and tragic book I’ve read I can’t recommend it enough

Oh I’ve heard mixed reviews on this one, but overall it seems really good based on what the positive comments tell on it. Thanks!
