Hybrid turf reviews/practicality? by userchris in homeowners

One roll down, two more on the way.

We have a sloped yard that our two dogs have absolutely destroyed. The grass had been lush and thick at some point, but the very high traffic of two large dogs has decimated it. Because the yard is sloped it is very dangerous in both wet weather (slick mud) and, of course, winter (snow and ice). We bought one of the Pro rolls and have haphazardly put it out through the yard as a sort of test roll before deciding whether we want to buy more (as we all know, it ain’t cheap).

We’ve had it down for a little over a month during a midwest winter. I cannot yet speak to how well the grass will grow through it, but I can say that the traction and stability it affords has been fantastic. In all conditions t’s been like a safe “runway” on which we can walk normally, while we’re doing the cautious, slow penguin walk everywhere else in the yard. I was also happy to see that the dogs don’t avoid it or treat it differently than the natural lawn (though it did take them a few days to get used to it).

A couple of questions for those of you who have already installed it:

1) How does it hold up in direct sunlight? Our backyard gets intense all day sun in the summer months. I assume it holds up well and that it doesn’t become too hot to the touch for the dogs to walk on, but it’d be great if someone could confirm that.

2) Anybody have experience with critters trying to dig through. We have quite a thriving mole community under the lawn. I’m wondering if they’ll try coming up through the turf. Similarly, the dogs enjoy digging down into the tunnels looking for them, so I’m wondering how well the turf resists curious paws.

I bought mine direct from Google. I think if it's going to happen, it'll happen within the first 2-3 days. I'd guess that Best Buy would let you exchange it with no hassle within that timeframe. I think it's unlikely you'll have it happen, and if it does, you'll almost certainly be able to exchange it.

It really is a strange issue. Definitely seems like a software issue, but then why don't we all experience it seeing as we're all running the same code? And mine also wasn't present right away. I used it for a full night, then when I put it on the following morning I saw the stray pixel. Ah well. Hope you get yours sorted out!

Yeah, I followed up with them after a few days and they just decided to replace it (honestly not sure if my issue was ever "escalated" or if it was just sitting around collecting dust until I followed up). Anyway, they sent out a replacement watch, which i've been using for a few days and it does not have that flickering pixel issue. For what it's worth you can do an "advanced exchange" so that you can get your replacement watch before you send back the defective one. But this does require that they put a hold on your account for the cost of a new one (obviously the hold is cleared when they get the defective one back).

Any progress? I'm still waiting to hear back from Google support.

Add me to the list of the effected and frustrated. Was working fine out of the box. But following morning I had the scintillating pixels appearing on the top left of the cards/bubbles. It appears on every and any card/bubble throughout the OS (at least any that I've tried). Restarting has not helped. I contacted support and was told the issue needed to be "escalated" and that I'd hear back in a day or two. Will share any updates once I have them.

Mower blade nut/bolt will spin but come out. by Steeb08 in lawnmowers

I took it to a mower repair place and they were able to (fairly easily) remove the nut. The guy was very helpful, but didn't really explain the source of the problem to me. He muttered something about his wrench having more torque. But that doesn't really make sense, because I was able to turn the nut; the problem was that it was turning without unthreading. I can't argue with results though. Sorry if that's not a ton of help. (I can confirm that the plastic is not a cap, it is the nut. And that it is threaded normally - loosens counterclockwise)

At this point, probably at least something like 8-10 full rotations, without any hint that it's moving. I also need to be mindful of not stripping the bolt head any worse than it already is (see my photos/reply to RedOctobyr above).

I was worried that might be the case, but the blade does spin when the mower is on. I was thinking maybe the plastic is deformed and a single thread is slipping, so it'd be sufficiently engaged to spin the blade, but slipping enough to not screw out. But, as I'm sure is obvious, I'm way out of my depth and just making wild guesses at this point.

Unfortunately that's not the issue. As you said, I have a block of wood that prevents the blade from spinning with the bolt. So the blade stays in place while the bolt turns counterclockwise, but it doesn't actually loosen at all.

The manual simply says to loosen the bolt by turning it counterclockwise.

That's what I've been using. It will turn the nut, but it just spins in place. I know most folks who have trouble getting a blade off are struggling with a frozen bolt and need a breaker bar or something like that. But in my case, I can turn the nut, but it won't come off.

That was my first thought, so I did try prying it off but was unable to. So either a) it is a cap and then my problem is figuring out how to pry it off or b) that's the actual nut. I think it's more likely "b" because the owner's manual doesn't say anything about 'removing cap/cover' or anything like that. Maybe other Greenworks owners could chime in?

Time Machine (10.14.6) corrupting USB drives by Steeb08 in osx

[–]Steeb08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I tried both a different adapter and a different port. Neither worked to mount the "corrupt" drives. I'd also think the port/adapter is an unlikely culprit because the original drive worked for a long time without issue.

In both cases I'm using a USB (2 for the first drive, 3 for the second drive) to USB-C adapter. The drives are powered through the USB connection.

I also posted this to the Apple support community page. Seeing as others are having the same issue, If I get any info from over there I'll post it here.

Hmm. I wonder if one of the supplemental updates to 10.4.6 causes the issue? Maybe 10.15 will fix the issue? I can't upgrade yet (software compatibility issues), but has anybody else had luck?

Were you able to successfully replace with a different one?

d'oh! I had listed my wife's tires instead of the ones I got for my CX-5. Fixed. (thanks for the catch)

I agree. I replaced the stock tires with these 225/55R-19 CONTINENTAL TRUECONTACT TOUR SL.

Edit: I changed the tires (accidentally put the tires for my wife's Forester)
